How to Know What’s Going On….

I suggest one way to have a true sense of what’s going on in the world you live in is to read The Guardian newspaper. You will find it full of news, that’s facts and truth, not someone’s truth, simply the truth, what has actually happened. You will find some useful analysis of what is happening, how events and themes link together to give a clear picture. You will find this well written and good to read even if what an article describes saddens you, you will have confidence that you know what’s going on. You will find background to news, links that illuminate how we got to here. These links are easy to follow and give you a more full and clear picture of what’s going on. Another wonderful thing is that The Guardian does not have an axe to grind like some other newspapers, just read it if you seek a better, fairer, more honest picture to explain what’s going on. And if you care about sport, money, theatre, music, I could go on and on, you will find journalism by writers who have a passion for all of these and more. If you want your newspaper to speak truth to power, try it.

Be careful how you sign in, or you’ll be charged twice, without option for refund

The app itself works great, and I’m happy to pay for good quality journalism. So 1-star review pertains to the subscription system which is broken, not the quality of the content.

Have had a regular donation to the Guardian for years, but didn’t have app access, so increased my subscription fee last June in order to gain access. Was struggling to login with my Guardian login details, so signed in via AppleID. This has resulted in my being charged twice per month, once via Apple and once via PayPal direct to the Guardian. The Apple subscription does not name the app the payment is related to on bank statements so easy to miss that dual payments being taken, particularly as one payment is for £10 and the other £9.99. Have been trying to get a refund all afternoon having been charged twice for months for the same product. Very disappointing, both from Apple and the Guardian. It shouldn’t be difficult to alert a customer that they have two accounts with identical email address. And when it is realised that this has been happening, it shouldn’t be such a battle to receive a refund. Customer services at both ends didn’t give the impression that they cared much about trying to increase safeguards against this happening, so resorting to leaving a public review.
