Motability Go Charge 4+

I’ve had the Motability Go Charge card now for a few months and I’ve found it very convenient to use when I have charge on the go. There are times when I’ve forgotten to charge at home and as the Go Charge card work on most charging stations I don’t need to worry.

This card in our local area does not pick up anything below 86p per kilowatt hour unless you drop down to the slower charges and it still doesn’t pick them up This also does not pick up the BP systems and Motability pay for a subscription for you to use and it does not pick up other charges in your area so currently we have two charges at 86p per kilowatt hour. This is not a economically feasible and cost 68 kilowatt hour size battery a lot of money, It is cheaper to run diesel and petrol. And some charges now are using 90 and a pound so either this card is limited to the people they’ve signed up with or at least price fixing but either way it’s cheaper not to use the card that’s the bottom line and yes, I have passed this onto Motability because charging the disabled a higher price is not acceptable when there is lowest prices available in the area and sometimes free it’s not right

The tariffs in the Go Charge App are the same as if you are paying with your debit card. We do not charge any premium for using the service. We are being charged more to charge our vehicles using this app. Some times up to £0.30 on top of the fee charged by the company used. This app is for the disabled and you can only get access to it if you are on the motability scheme. I’m sure charging the disabled more to charge than a non disabled person would ultimately be direct disability discrimination. Profiting off someone purely down to them being disabled is a criminal offence. How are Motability allowing this to happen? I get it’s a service but there are free alternatives that don’t add cost to the user. The user can subscribe to get better features but ultimately they don’t need to subscribe to get the price the charging company actually charge.

I’m sending this as an email to Motability also because I don’t think it’s right to be doing this.

The specific example you provide sounds unusual and we would like to offer to investigate this for you. If you can provide us of the situation where you have found yourself paying more then the team will investigate further. Our intent is for prices to always match the pay as you go price (or be as close as we can achieve based on the pricing the charge point operators offer us).
