Learn English and understand it
I’ve never seen such an amazing app that can explain to me how English words are connected with its predecessors from Latin, German, French, and others. I’m from Russia and I found myself much comfortable when studying English with this app as many words are similar when it comes to sounding and words root. I tried many academic books on etymology but this app covers all that stuff in one place, in just one request.
Definitely recommend for new learners as well as for native speakers.
Many etymologies for words have been truncated on the iPad app.
I generally like and appreciate all the work and benefit of the website over the years and the app. However, I recent
y noticed that there are more than a few words that their etymologies have been cut short even in mid word. Also no real pattern to how long the etymologies will be some only 2 lines. Some words many lines long.
Small issue when you search for words from several letters you don’t necessarily able to peruse all of the results. Maybe due to volume, but is frustrating, and do not believe this is stated anywhere either.
Until the etymologies for words are added in their entirety I cannot give a 5* rating. The whole point to your website and app is to review the etymologies of words is it not?

You improve the app & and synthesize etymologies so that it is some help when the iPad app is OFFLINE, and then, I will give more stars.

This is not a flashy app but it is extremely useful. The essential bottom line is that you can get detailed, reliable etymological information here faster than by using google. Plus you can then browse the database and broaden your knowledge. So there is no need to worry about this just download the app
