Ratings and Reviews
My go-to for quick reference, as well in deeper research
At first I got this for use in a particular project, looking at “families” of words via etymology, but now it’s on the iPad I continue to use it several times a week on average.
When I look for the spelling or definition of a word I use this app because of the added bonus of being able to explore the etymology… Much faster and more insightful way to do quick reference compared to web browser searching.
Being able to search in other languages, especially Latin and Greek has been useful at times.
Best feature is having the quick to switch views (tree, family, children, details) - the app is not in the way of seeing the information, instead the app propels us towards discovering connections in the roots of words.
Moneys well spent to get a clean and easy to use tool. Highly recommend.
Fantastic app
As a person with an interest in etymology and ADHD, this app is amazing. Really easy to use, and endlessly interesting, the app presents the etymology of your searched word in beautifully visual linked nodes, from the current usage, back through other languages like French, German, Greek or Latin where appropriate, and back to Proto-Indo-European.
Contained in the nodes are the root words, but also other information, like other words that they are the root of. Did you know one of the root words for Salt is also the root of the word Coral? I do now thanks to this app.
I may spend a lot of time in here. Luckily I bought the lifetime subscription that costs less than a year of monthly subs.
Whoever made this, I thank and applaud you.
Finding the past
It is wonderful to find where our words came from, in fact it’s exciting to me. This app allows one to explore that fascination with an added freedom that you don’t have to start with a search to find the provenance of language and thus ideas, they can just tumble out to you and lead to other words.
Excellent !!!!!
