Strongbox Pro 4+

Been using Strongbox Pro for about a year now. Main reason I chose it is because it allows self hosting the password database on your own hardware. With Strongbox you can, of course, host your passwords in the cloud if you like. After Lastpass was hacked I moved to Strongbox. Never again will I store passwords in the cloud. The import feature works well and made the transition fairly easy from Lastpass. I self host on a Raspberry Pi on my home network. Strongbox syncs the database between all of my devices including my wife’s devices. It allows offline access to your passwords when you’re on the road. It syncs changes and resolves conflicts you or your wife might make in offline mode when you get back on your home network. The developer is responsive. I asked a lot of questions on Reddit before making the switch. He answered all of my questions quickly and clearly. I learned a lot from his responses. Strongbox has worked flawlessly. I highly recommended it.

I was a longtime user of 1Password, and really depended on its functionality. I was not happy, though, when they decided to prevent the use of local vaults and then moved onto a non-native client for Mac.

Since I was a heavy 1Password user, storing attachments and using custom fields, I thought the move to a different password manager was going to be difficult.

I was wrong, the transition to Strongbox was incredibly easy. The UI is excellent, and the migration from 1Password to Strongbox was seamless.

I waited to write this review until I had some time to use Strongbox. Its been several months now, and I am extremely happy I made the decision to switch to Strongbox. The only feature that is really missing, is plugins for other browsers. That is not an issue for me since the app is so easy to use, has a great UI, and offers password autofill using the native api, like the built in Mac password manager uses.

I have tested the complex Strongbox password databases I have on Windows, with KeePassXC, and it works perfectly.

I am thrilled that Strongbox offers such a great experience, using an open source cross-platform database format, and allowing me to keep my data under my control - but still very accessible.

I've been using password managers before there were password managers and we had to write our own. I've tried and used several commercial products for year. Most lacked the features I desired to maximize security and/or were coded offshore. I used to beg for features like local vaults, wifi-syn, customized fields, entry counts, last update records, password history and UI improvments to make the utility fast and easy enough so that the trade off between inconvenience and security was minimized. Strongbox is way out ahead of me with even more advanced features and constant refinments in usabilty that make using the product an absolute joy. Strongbox on MacOS and iOS is so far ahead that whenever I come up with something else it's usually already there! Five Stars for product and Five Stars for support.
