Description

Advanced Wavetable Trajectory Synthesis delivers an astonishing Church Organ synth that sounds glorious, and is an excellent choice of "first organ" for pianists.

This is a faithful reproduction of the pipe organ in St. Just in Roseland Parish Church, Cornwall. Do not be fooled by its small size - this is a genuine, high quality Virtual Pipe Organ.

The organ can be enjoyed to its fullest extent if 2 manuals, a pedalboard and a swell pedal are attached. However, if you have limited space or a limited budget, every sound of the organ is available using just a single attached MIDI controller keyboard, by virtue of its manual couplers and the 'Auto Pedal' function.

22 speaking stops, a rich selection of couplers and a tremulant on the Swell division are in place in this digital recreation.

Additionally 8 programmable pistons are provided to allow one-touch access to frequently-used registrations, and these may be mapped to Drum Pads on modern MIDI controller keyboards. A high quality reverberation engine is provided within the app, and the reverb controls, overall instrument volume, swell, crescendo and the pistons may all be controlled by knobs or sliders on an attached MIDI controller.

All features of the real organ are reproduced, and the Virtual Pipe Organ allows maximum performance flexibility. An entire church service can be played using just a single MIDI controller, giving an incredibly cost-effective solution for churches on a budget. It can also be played with two manuals, and supports a pedalboard of up to 32-notes, with support for Swell AND Crescendo pedals. A particularly cost-effective solution is to buy an inexpensive, used 'Home Organ' with MIDI output, and use that purely as a controller, with the app generating all the sounds.

By exploiting Wavetable Trajectory Synthesis rather than sample replay, this app is tiny, yet manages to capture all the beauty and the subtle nuances of the organ.

Note that this app does not contain a playable on-screen keyboard, so either attached USB MIDI controllers, or another app capable of generating virtual MIDI are required to play the organ.

Good features; realism somewhat lacking

Given all the hype and praise surrounding this app online, I figured it would be hands-down the best app in terms of realism and features for the price. While the features and number of stops are certainly great, and overall the app is definitely worth the price, a good half of the stops fail the realism test.

If you’re looking to use this in a church setting, as I was, where you’re replacing an obviously insufficient instrument like a MIDI keyboard with built-in “church organ” sound, the it’s an upgrade, but not to the extent that other reviews would have you believe.

The same (to my knowledge) developer has a much more realistic Victorian Chapel Organ that is smaller, but fits the realism requirement much better. Sound quality for both includes some clipping at higher volumes, but a decent pre-amp that allows you to find the edge of “too loud” will serve you well there.

Again, in terms of features, it’s wonderful. But it isn’t the “realistic” organ it’s sold as. It’s a decent synth at best for a good half of the stops.

Great pipe organ synth for the price

While not as easy to control as other pipe organ synths, it’s a great effort for the price. All of the app settings need to be moved into the app for better control. It still took only 15 minutes to have this synth playing the same MIDI music as our real 3-manual church pipe organ, and sounding similar in audio recordings.

The reverb engine needs significant improvement. To make this instrument sound more like better organ synths, running its output audio through external reverb effects gets it 90% of the way there. Would love to see more virtual pipe organs for iPads, iPhones, and Apple silicon macs from this publisher.

Correctly trying to tune it I wanted.

I tried tuning it to make the octaves sound just like most pipe organs sound. Trying to tune it to an exact C to correct the tuning for myself.
