Description

Poison Perils of Alabama was designed to provide key information about Alabama's flora, fauna - and also common household items - that are critical for any parent, teacher or caregiver to know in order to keep children, and themselves, safe. We believe this is the first and only resource of its kind in Alabama and think this information is critical due to the state's amazing array of biodiversity.

This resource was designed to make you aware of the plants, snakes, insects and household items that the Alabama Poison Information Center at Children's of Alabama receives calls about each year. This information hotline (1-800-222-1222) is one of the few services at Children's that deals with adults as well as children. Last year, the Regional Poison Control Center handled more than 52,000 calls, resulting in > 40,000 cases, and provided more than 60,000 follow-up calls to assure appropriate treatment and outcomes.

With our partners at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, the Alabama Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and UAB, we are particularly happy to be able to offer this information in a single resource for the first time.

Great app

A very valuable app for all to have. Listing the commonly seen poisons and what actions to take for the specific exposure. Very user friendly answers at the touch if a button. I especially like the direct link button to connect to the poison control center.
Taking care of our kids !!

Great for young learners

My kindergartner was learning about spiders at school, and he loves the quiz! Since it refreshes every time, he can take it over and over again. Great work!

Great idea, but...

The app has a great beginning, but simply suggesting to call the poison control center and providing very elementary information makes this app fairly useless. There are hundreds of apps and Google that will provide the same or better information. Giving this app some robust information about what to expect and what to do about the poisons would go a long way to making this a great app.
