MilesMyWay

Take control of what you pay with MilesMyWay!

If you’re a low mileage driver or have an extra vehicle that isn’t driven often, this app could help you save on what you pay for insurance.

MilesMyWay is a way for you to earn savings based on how much, or in this case how little, you drive. The app records your mileage, displays how many miles you’ve driven, and gives you an idea of how much savings you’re on track to earn.

Sign up for the MilesMyWay program through your local American Family agent to receive an invite to download and use the app at no cost. We’ll also mail you a MilesMyWay sensor to place in your car.

Room for improvement.

This app is no comparison to the old know you drive app. The old app used to have both of us driving the same vehicle at the same time to the same place and the results were different on his phone as a driver than in my phone. How can that be? I’m thinking the old app was built by a man, for a man so any female drivers will always get a lesser score. This app is very accurate in everything it shows when I look at it after a venture out and about.
One thing I don’t like is the fast breaking ding. I realize it is to stop people from following too closely but back 60+ years ago, when learning to drive you were taught NOT to ride the brake. So I needed to stop, I braked. Fast stop and no brake riding. This should not be a ding against my insurance.
And has been a time or two that when I pulled over, was stopped to check gps or something on my phone it told me I was still driving even though my vehicle was not in motion. So I question that. I don’t like to lie and say that I was not the driver as I was BUT was pulled off the road with flashers or into a parking lot.
All in all I do like this app much better but there is always room for improvement.

Experiences we’ve had so far

The only one that I feel is questionable is the hard braking. One time I had the green light to go through an intersection and another driver pulled out to my right to turn into my lane. If I wouldn’t have braked hard I could have had a collision. Another time I had the green light again and a vehicle coming towards me again turned into my lane which I needed to brake for. Both of these were from the other drivers not obeying the rules. We’ve also had a time where I was driving to a game in Florence and didn’t notice that the car had synched with my wife’s phone on the way back home so she got dinged for using her phone and being distracted when she wasn’t even driving. I thought the GPS could tell if the phone was on the drivers or passengers side. This happened at least twice for her when I was the driver. We have now tried to check each time whose phone is being synched to the car. I just thought that once it was synched up at the beginning of a trip it would stay there when I’m in the drivers seat.

We appreciate the feedback! Using a GPS alone should not mark as a distraction. For a full list of the criteria we measure, please visit: https://amfam.ly/3Gl3J60. If you notice the app is marking distraction outside those parameters please reach out to us drivemyway@amfam.com and we can look into this further. Thank you.

Overall helpful but somewhat aggravating.

As an annoyingly honest person I find the app gives negative consequences in unavoidable circumstances where quick slowdowns are inevitable according to laws of traffic on highways, or for reacting to wildlife. Should I be penalized for hastily reducing my speed when surrounded by traffic traveling 65+ mph while approaching my driveway which is directly off of the 4 lane highway and does not have much of a deceleration lane? I was told in order for it not to count against me to say I was a passenger. Well, that does not seem like an appropriate allocation for the circumstance and therefore giving others who may not be quite as honest a way out. Also, it would skew the data. But perhaps the goal is to have people forget they are running the app and therefore collect all the data, where in this case it doesn’t always appropriately assign the role of driver so again data is skewed.

Overall, it’s fun to see my scores and I probably spend way too much time critiquing my driving and having a silent, one-sided, competition with my husband.
