MTG Scanner - Lion’s Eye 9+

Fantastic Scanner

I spend quite a bit of time in the MTG space with a lot of interaction with developers of apps and websites related to Magic. This is one of the best apps that I've used, and probably *the* best scanner that I've encountered. I have used many scanners and this is the only one that I've had success with consistently and accurately scanning funky SLD cards.

The owner and developer is very receptive to feedback, active daily on Discord, and noticeably passionate about the project. The price is fair and absolutely worth the cost of what...a small black coffee once per month? Easy decision for me. I highly recommend this app!

So far great

I have sat here for the better part of 1.5 hours downloading and trying scanner apps. So far this is the only one that has worked. I have scanned 7 cards. Some where sleeved, non-sleeved and non-sleeved but in a binder. All scanned with 0 issues. Once I complete the rest of the 50 free scans I will update if I decided to go premium. Edit…. Concerns Should be able to turn off multi capture Scanner will capture cards at the most awkward angle but will have huge issues trying to capture some cards that are directly in front of the camera. Outside those concerns still a solid 4 of 5 stars. Edit 2…. Where are you getting your prices from? They’re all over the place when you compare them to TCG. EDIT……If I’m supposed to be able to create a personalized deck in this app it doesn’t work. I click add and nothing happens.

Hi, iPod is legit! Thanks for the awesome review and taking the time to edit with additional thoughts! It’s recommended to scan cards with only one card in frame at a time since it’s reading text in view from top to bottom, so cards in a binder could prove a little challenging. Prices and all other pricing data come from the Scryfall database and their pricing affiliates. It’s fine, but search is slow

I like the integration with Scryfall search syntax. However, the card database does not get downloaded so it literally has to reach out to Scryfall to do a search. This causes lag on the keyboard since it actively searches as you type. I type fast, so I frequently have to wait a second for the app to catch up when doing searches. Very frustrating.

The discover tab is neat but I didn’t find myself using it much.

It’s also just too many clicks to add a card to a deck. Search the card, click the deckbox icon, click the deck of choice, select the board, then select foil/nonfoil. It’d be nice if the plus button could add a card to the most recent deck instead of add to collection. Would make building decks on mobile much faster.

Hi Abockley! Thank you very much for the feedback and review. Here are a few tips regarding your concerns:

The delay when typing your search is intentional; the app is not searching as you type but just filtering as you type from the +28,000 unique card names to offer suggestions. This happens entirely on device, but in early app versions, such a dynamic search would interrupt typing — hence the 500 millisecond delay. Regarding adding to a deck, please try typing your search in the search bar inside the deck and press the “Search Online” button below the filtered results. Pressing the plus button in that search results will add directly to the deck. I like your idea, though, and will test designating an “Add to recent deck” feature!
