Description

This application is designed to be used with the Mopeka TankCheck sensor. The Tank Check application can measure the LPG propane level to tell you the exact fill level and when your tank is empty. It can be used on tanks found in RVs, heaters, BBQ grills, etc. The Tank Check sensors are magnetically stuck to the bottom of your propane tank and will periodically measure and wirelessly send the fill level or percentage to the Tank Check app. Stick it on the bottom of your tank and know exactly when you are running low on propane! This technology is patent pending.

More info about the TankCheck Sensor and links to purchase the sensors can be found on the Mopeka website at http://www.mopeka.com

Usage:
1. To pair your Tank Check sensor to the phone, simply press the "Sync" button on the back of the sensor while the app's main screen is visible. The first time you use your Tank Check sensor you must press the "Sync" button 5 times in a row in order to wake up the sensor.
2. Place the Tank Check sensor in the center of the underside of the tank. Most tanks have a small "flat" spot on the center and this is the nominal location for the sensor.
3. Flip the tank over. Once the fluid has settled the app will display a reading. Note that the LPG fluid will be sloshing around in the tank for a few minutes and the quality of the measurements will be low until this has stabilized.

Works pretty well but the app has at least one bug and no ability to update sensor firmware

I’ve had a support ticket open for over a month with no reply: is there a firmware update for the tank sensors? The app offers a firmware file upload capability but no way to check or download firmware files, and none are on the Website.

More troublesome is that the app shows 0% propane remaining on my tank which has 3.6cm remaining on a 20lb tank. If you switch the app to display from percent remaining to centimeters remaining, the correct value displays. There is a bug in how they are calculating percent remaining. I opened a ticket on it and it remains to be seen whether they will acknowledge it and address the bug or not.

Overall, I’m happy with the sensors but a little polish on the rough edges would make this solution go from imperfect to outstanding. You’re almost there!

Constant Notification Issues

I have been using these sensors for about 6-7 months now and from the start I have had issues regarding notifications with this app. More specifically the notification frequency which no matter what I do defaults back to the “every 12 hours” setting, and more annoyingly doesn’t even abide by this and instead sends constant notifications when I am within range on my sensors.

Not long after purchasing them I contacted support and they advised me to use their other “pro” app to update my sensors firmware to resolve this yet the issue persisted.

So a couple weeks ago I once again reached out to support and informed them I was still experiencing the SAME issues at which time they decided to replace both my sensors. After a little over a week with the new sensors this issue still persists pointing to the fault lying within the app itself.

While this is by no means affects the overall functionality of the sensors as far as I can tell, it is incredibly frustrating not to mention annoying to get constant notifications. Disabling them would defeat the purpose of having them in the first place.

Buyer beware (as of Mar 2023)

The app still does not allow one to set a high alert. So if you hope to use this for your RV gray tank you will not be able to get a notification when your tank exceeds 80% (for example). The only option is for a tank below X% (helpful for fresh water and propane).

Also, the maximum interval for checking the tank level is every 30 seconds. Battery life could likely be prolonged if the app allowed for longer intervals (30 min, 60 min). The user can then decide if knowing their gray tank level every 3 or 30 seconds is actually necessary.

I’m hopeful for these devices, but just installed today so time will tell how well they work. Three stars for the app until at a minimum the high level alert is available.
