Description

Automatic Lap Counter with Stopwatch and LARGE FONTS; Lap Swim is an Apple Watch (Series 2 and later) App that automatically detects, displays, records and graphs the lap count and elapsed time of a swim session. Detects and displays the type of stroke and stroke count during each lap.

- Detects and displays the lap direction and lap count while swimming using the gyroscope in the Apple Watch
- LARGE FONT display of time and lap count
- Stopwatch function while swimming
- Auto start/stop mode detects swimming and automatically starts (or stops) the stopwatch
- Lap counter counts up from 0 or counts down from preset lap goal
- Senses and displays freestyle strokes, backstrokes, and breaststrokes
- Detects and counts kickboard laps
- Records and graphs (on the paired iPhone) the following:
------ Date and time of a swim session
------ Time for each lap and of entire swim session
------ Number of laps
------ Average speed and speed for each lap
------ Stroke count and type of stroke (freestyle, back, breast or kick board)
------ Distance in meters or yards
- Enters workout information into the Health and Activity apps

Lap Swim uses the gyroscope and accelerometer in the Apple Watch to detect the type of stroke and the orientation of the swimmer. Using this information it displays the lap count of a swim session. Lap Swim also has a standard stopwatch function. The swim session information is transmitted to the paired iPhone and displayed on both a table and a graph.

Lap Swim is free and fully functional for the first 250 laps. After that, Lap Swim continues to function but it requires a low cost IAP to display the lap count.

Inconsistent stopwatch function

The lap count works great. Accurate 100% of the time. So if you only want to count laps, it works great. Stop watch is inconsistent and most often inaccurate. After a set of 9 laps, I will compare the app to the poolside digitally displayed stopwatch and the app almost always adds anywhere from 5 to 20 seconds to my time. Today it added a full 45 seconds to what I actually swam according to the poolside stopwatch. Infrequently, it will be somewhat accurate, adding 2-3 seconds to my actual time, which I consider reasonable. Today, after 3 sets of 9 laps, the app was 53 seconds more than what I actually had swam according to the poolside stopwatch. So after adding 45 seconds to the first set, it added 4 seconds to each of the next two sets. When reviewing several days, it’s difficult to determine if I am improving because the app time is so inaccurate.

Developer Response ,

I suspect something else is happening because the watch has an accurate timer. The question is when to start and stop that timer. In Manual mode you start and stop it using the crown. I guarantee it is not adding additional time in Manual mode. In Automatic mode it starts on the first stroke (adding 2 seconds) and it stops 10 seconds after the 'last' stroke (and subtracts 8 seconds. It is possible that when you are 'stopped' in between your sets you move your arm and the watch thinks you have started again. Then 10 seconds later it decides you have stopped - but that will add 2+8 seconds because it incorrectly sensed a 'stroke' while you were resting. If this is an issue, revert to Manual mode. (Note - individual lap times are measured from first stroke to first stroke in opposite direction and could be off by a few seconds.) Please use the Contact Us button if you wish to discuss further and consider revising your rating if Manual mode works.

Great App but needs refinement

It’s easy to loose count of laps swam during workouts. Lap Swim records and provides the count on the watch face during the swim, then sends a the related data from the watch to the phone when done. That’s where it needs work. The STOP and SAVE buttons are nearly impossible to find by rotating the crown.

I Really Can’t Get This App to Work

I like the idea of this app but the Apple watch interface is completely confusing. It’s also really unattractive. I need instructions please
