Description
Receive alerts of Gravitational Wave Events from the LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA Collaboration (LVK) on your iPhone.
This is an app for both the LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA Community and the general public. It provides low latency alerts using the Open Public Alerts currently being deployed by the Gamma-ray Coordinates Network (GCN) through GCN/LVK Notices (https://emfollow.docs.ligo.org/userguide/). To receive alerts using the app just select the category of alerts you wish to receive - it's that simple!
The O3 observing run ended in March 2020. O4 is expected to start in May 2023. The app will download all O4 events and counterparts as they are reported through a GCN Notice in addition to any related GCN Circulars. The app database is pre-populated with selected Notices and Circulars from all previous O1, O2 and O3 events. The app retains Notices for one Mock Event reported through GCN for testing purposes. (For information on LIGO/Virgo/KAGRA Collaboration GCN Notices see: https://gcn.gsfc.nasa.gov/lvc.html .)
Includes an interactive sky map showing the location of each event.
The app also has a public Message exchange bulletin board and some interesting Links. The Links provide information on Gravitational Waves and the LIGO and Virgo observatories.

Ratings and Reviews
Great way to experience GW Astronomy
This app provides realtime alerts and reporting from around the world on the emerging field of Gravitational Wave Astronomy. It allows one to filter on and receive notifications for event types of interest. I enjoy getting notifications every few days on some new event or observations. Especially fascinating are events involving neutron stars, since they are the most likely to have remnants that can be observed by other means. I have read practically every report by teams trying to correlate observations of neutron star events, and am always amazed by the different teams of astronomers working together to understand the nature of the universe. This app is perfect for anyone who wishes to experience real-time and understand this emerging field and technology better.
Universe calling!
That my iphone vibrates at the same time as astronomers around the world are being alerted is beyond cool.
I use the app almost daily to check which detectors are on line. I also use the seismometers to monitor world wide earthquakes. LIGO has some of the best to know when the earth is quiet enough for gravity wave science.
I think the communications on the app are mostly for professionals and simple questions will get referred to the excellent list of links. Sometimes a pro will answer questions not found in faqs, but it think it was not intended as a big public chat group. I thank the author for allowing the public a front row seat to the events and science going on.
Review
As a medical scientist as opposed to a physical scientist I feel privileged to be allowed access to this information. I am learning a lot and hope to continue to increase my literacy on the science of gravitational wave events. Thank you for making this available.
