Overview

The year is 1812. Great Britain and her allies are battling Napoleon for control of Europe. In response to British seizure of American ships and goods, the young United States declares war on Britain and invades Canada. You and up to 4 other players take command of the armies of the British Redcoats, Canadian Militia, and Native Americans, or of the American Regulars and American Militia to decide the fate of the Americas. The action takes place on a huge historically accurate map that spans the United States and Canada from Detroit to Montreal. Players from each faction cooperate to gain control of key towns and forts.

Good game!!! (iPad Air)

What the title says! I also have 1775, which along with this game and 1754 make up the Birth Of America trilogy. Very fun and educational game system. It has a few birthing glitches, but nothing that will kill it in the crib. Matter of fact, so did 1775 and HexWar was very responsive to my inputs and 'got her done', and they will do the same here. These folks are serious about fixing stuff - but they have to hear from you! That's the key: give them INPUT in a timely and clear manner with screenshots if possible. I've never been disappointed with their games/support (I have a bunch of their titles). They have a great track record, and I'm looking forward to 1754: The French And Indian War.

Great strategy game!

This is a very good follow-up to the previous 1775 game by the same developers. The American militia and regular army face off against the British regulars, Canadian militia, and Native American tribes in the war of 1812.

The game features a simple system, with area movement and card- driven movement capabilities. Combat is based on die rolling, but different units have different potential to hit, flee or hold in place. The Great Lakes divide up the border region so that there are three main fronts, which allows for various strategies as to where you're going to attack and defend. Both sides have to balance pursuing offensives with funneling additional troops and reinforcements to the front; it's very easy to run out of steam just when you're striking deep into enemy territory.

The best thing about 1812, like 1775, is that it's one of the very few games by Hexwar that allows you to play other opponents online. Maybe it's just me, but playing the AI is never as much fun as playing an actual human, and a human opponent will come up with much more clever strategies every time. More like this, please!

Too Expensive

The game's overpriced and lacks a lot of content for being at the price it is, also froze on me a few times. Save your money.
