WGT Golf 4+

Fun to play at first, with a range of golf courses including some of the recent US open hosts. However the pin positions and the golf courses chosen are such that you need to purchase some of the upgrades to do well, which do cost a lot. Additionally, the golf courses where weekly tournaments are held at tend to be the same Chambers bay and Erin Hills which are unsurprisingly, very long which the free set of golf clubs often leave you hitting a drive which on some holes, doesn’t even make the shortest tee-boxes! Would be fun and appealing to compete if something can be done to prevent cheap/free club sets from being disadvantaged. Lastly, a bigger range of golf courses to include those where non-major tournaments are held, such as TPC sawgrass/TPC Potomac/Quail Hallow CC/Emirates Golf Club/Trump Dubai/Scotland/Florida would certainly add greater value to the game making each round more interesting.

That said, for a free game, it is the best on the App Store, featuring detailed graphics, many top golf brands and weekly tournaments which are great fun. The help and support team are quick responding leaving your queries quickly resolved.

I’ve played WGT for a few days now and while it’s overall a polished, good looking golf sim with some genuine realism it has more than a few niggles. The reliance on photos for the holes means you have stunningly replicated courses but leaves some shots with very limited views. There is a very steep learning curve - especially when it comes to putting. It’s also hard to get the info you need on things like green speed - one qualifying round I played at Pebble Beach had very unforgiving greens like glass. There seems to be some inconsistencies with how much of an effect rough or sand can have on the ball’s playability too - sometimes a ‘30-40%’ lie will mean taking two or three clubs more on a shot and other times - especially around the green - it will have no effect on the ball at all. The club rental system - along with several other features - is basically just a money grab too. Plus the UI is not exactly simple. You have to flick through clubs in your equipment instead of it just moving to the one you touch. Plus you have to unequip a club first before replacing it with a new one I also had several erroneous error messages whenever I tried renting a club - either ‘not connecting’ (yet I’d still get the club), telling me it had run out of time when it was still valid or offering me clubs only to say I didn’t qualify for them. All in all a decidedly mixed game...

I have had this game for many years, but took a break for a while. Great to see head to head matchplay when I returned. Two quibbles - it’s not St Andrews golf club, it’s the Old Course, St Andrews. And while I appreciate the need for adverts, surely a bigger variety of 30 seconds ads rather than the repetitive 75 seconds for Royal Kingdom which is seriously annoying. Is this the only sponsor?
Update - I am about to delete the game for good. If it is a ploy to run only Royal Kingdom ads so that we purchase something in order to stop ads, then it’s a ploy that will NOT work with me. And the most annoying thing is - I already have Royal Kingdom, so why do the ads persist? What is the point of cookies if not to know not to run an ad for something already in the system? Totally p****d off.
