ALWAYS READY WHEN YOU ARE - COMPUTER OPPONENT
Whether in the middle of the night or during your coffee break, your computer is always ready for a match. Choose from three difficulty levels to suit your skill level. For those who want to play only the best, a world-class artificial intelligence opponent is available as an in-app purchase. Casual play or competitive match? True Backgammon has an opponent for you that is fun to play with or that is a teeth grinding challenge.
PLAY WITH PEOPLE NEAR YOU - GAME BOARD MODE
Imagine you are with friends and want to pass the time with a game? Or are you on the train playing against the computer and one of your fellow commuters turns out to be a backgammon player too? You don't need to carry around a real board with you all the time. Instead, True Backgammon is your board.
CONNECT WITH FRIENDS OR PLAY AGAINST RANDOM OPPONENTS ONLINE - GAME CENTER
Would you rather play against a human than an AI, but there is no opponent in sight? Join the growing community of people playing True Backgammon online every day on an iPad, iPhone, iPod, iMac or MacBook. There's always someone ready to play. And not only can you play with them, you can talk to them using the built-in voice chat.
BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER - GAME BOARDS
We didn't just want to make good AI and smooth gameplay, we also wanted to make it look good. No, not just good... we wanted them to look drop dead gorgeous. We found a skilled designer and then tortured him with feedback until we were satisfied. The result is two boards (metal and wood) that look awesome, while offering little visual distraction to keep you focused on your strategy. And for those who love a little distraction, we let the designer run wild with a selection of (optional) fancy boards, rich in decoration and beautiful detail. Which is your favourite?
AAAND ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BOARD, A MULTI-OLYMPIC CHAMPION AI - BEEE GEEEE BLITZ
From time to time there is an Olympic tournament for backgammon programs. We have persuaded the creator of the three-time winner BGBlitz to make his AI available to True Backgammon users. This AI is a world class opponent for those who want to play only the best. And it is a patient tutor. BGBlitz offers a tutor mode that will point out moves that are not optimal and show you better ones. It also gives you statistics, and you can export your current game to the common SGF format to analyse it with other applications like XG2, BGBlitz or gnuBG.
WHAT ELSE CAN WE SAY?
To cut a long story short, we have put a lot of effort into this application, not only in the gameplay, but on every level. If you choose it, we are sure you will not be disappointed.
What’s New
Version 6.20
* 'Show win probability bar in the center of the board' tutor game aids option added
* 'Doubling messages contain score and pipcount' game aids option added
* The BGBlitz engine now offers a 'BGBlitz 3-ply' option, which performs a (slow but very powerful) 3-ply depth analysis

Ratings and Reviews
Good fun......most of the time.
I enjoy the game even though the computer player definitely appears to have home advantage when it comes to rolling the dice.
As an example, if you leave any counters exposed the computer rapidly finds a roll of the dice which means they’ll be taken off the board. In the reverse case it seldom happens as quickly. Trying to find your way back onto the board by landing on the computer player’s counter seems nigh on impossible.
More often than not, if you ensure you don’t leave any counters vulnerable then you will have a very good chance of victory. However, if you play a slightly riskier game you will quickly find the computer player advances to a position of unassailable strength taking your counters quicker than you can say “are the dice rigged?”.
Overall, it’s good fun but I find myself using the ‘Resign Game’ option very frequently as you can see what’s going to happen. This obviously wouldn’t be the case in a real human-human match.
Overall, it’s a 3.5 to 4 out of 5. I agree with another reviewer who wrote that you can predict what the computer player will roll before they actually do and this takes the shine off what could be an excellent version of the game.

Thank you very much for your fair review. I want to bring your attention to which I also write other users blaming the app for being loaded: From time to time the app shows an information dialog about the various possibilites the app is offering to help users prove that the app is not cheating. A list of all upcoming dice rolls can be displayed by pressing the small dice symbol in the right app menu to convince users who think that the computer rolls dice depending on the game situation. A button inside the dice dialog is available to create new dice at any time for people who think that the computer derive a benefit from the fact that he could know the upcoming dice. And there is an option to switch the app to manual dice roll, so that everyone can prove with one or two matches up to 15 points that the success rate against the computer will not increase. Believe me, as the programmer of this app I do not have the slightest benefit from writing an app which cheats, and which makes customers unhappy. This simply does not make sense. The BGBlitz-Engine from Frank Berger, available in the In-Appstore, is probably the best backgammon engine in the world. No human player will often win against such an AI, those engines are made mostly for training purposes. The feeling that the computer is cheating is even higher when playing against such an engine. The main reason is, that in a Backgammon game that one best move does not exist, but it is all about probabilities to play the game in a way, that your opponent is unable to use most possible dice rolls, while you are able to use nearly every dice roll. And this is something a computer can do much better than most casual gamers. The result is that a human most of the time has a feeling of never get the dice he is hoping for, while the computer always gets dice which fit into the game.
THE BEST DIGITAL BACKGAMMON BOARD FOR IOS
1. It has the BEST looking boards on the platform, 2. It is the only backgammon app I know where the individual checkers can be dragged from one place to another, making it more realistic, enhancing the experience 3. The green dots which indicate where the checkers can go are unobtrusive and great for helping beginners and advanced players alike 4. The dice is not biased, it is as random as can be, one can even replace it with one’s own dice if one has any issues. 5. I have bought a few of the dlc, the orient boards, the leather board, the bg blitz tutor and ai, all of them worth it, every board has a unique feel to it and makes the numerous games feel fresh. The ai tutor is extremely helpful and it can be set to only show the best moves you could’ve played when asked! Obviously, there could be improvements made, but they are minor and do not detract from the rating If there is one thing I’d like, it would be a detail and resolution increase for the existing boards That’s all for this review, it is worth every penny

Thank you very much for your friendly review. Have fun playing!
The way these dice roll is ridiculous
Having played this game for quite a while I can definitely say that the developer has changed the equation.
It’s mostly all to do with how many games the computer will allow you to win before it will win time and time again regardless of the improbable chance of it throwing the numbers!
FOUR doubles in a row after doubling…..yeah that really happens….keeping two blots off the board even though you have three points available for SIX throws whilst the other side sorts itself out? And meanwhile he will have one point available and slot everything on it that you knock off time after time?
His favourite technique for winning is keeping a knocked off blot off the board whilst he is bearing off until half or more of his are off, even though half the points are available, and then let you back in on 6 so you can’t do a thing. Real games rarely work this way so consistently.
Unfortunately it has become an unrealistic game as I really used to enjoy playing it, and don’t believe the whole try with ‘try with your own dice’ thing…
