Ratings and Reviews
Great app, buy the full version
Great on Lite, but most certainly worth £2 for the full version. A great app when light pollution is affecting your ability to ID a star. Yes, it’s quite light compared to the likes of Stellarium, but then it’s a tenner. I have both and keep things app as it works even outside of internet reception, meaning finding Polaris is never a challenge when in new areas for astrophotography.
My favourite part of it however is the extremely detailed descriptions of various objects with an “audio” that doesn’t follow the text descriptions. A must have for amateurs in all areas of stargazing!
Amazing app apart from one bug.
This app is perfect for an amateur astronomer such as myself! While not so useful for identifying things already seen in the sky, it is amazing for locating specific objects. The ability to search by categories such as planets and satellites means you can easily find out what there is to see in the sky that you want to look at. Also the feature of pushing the time forward is great for planning what to look at when night time comes. Unfortunately, on the paid version of this app the compass orientation is completely broken, and never correctly points to north. This can be set manually, which must be done every time the app opens, and is obviously less accurate than the app doing it automatically. I often find myself using stars or planets to try and orient the app correctly. If this bug were to fixed, I couldn't fault the app and it would deserve five stars for sure.
That's Mars!
Its a super amateur astronomers phone app for identifying whats in the night sky. Some reviews complain rightly that the auto compass calibration is poor but this is simply resolved using settings /calibration /manual, point at an obvious object like the moon & slide the screen left or right to sync the object with the screen view as per the screen instructions. It works fine. I love it and happy when i can say "that Mars" or "that's Jupiter" with confidence. Even found the ISS with it.
