Good start but more to do

I really liked the previous ReadMe! app and I’m glad that ReadOwl is continuing to integrate the spritz reader with epubs. That said I think there are still some usability issues to iron out, including;

When you select text the options for what to do with that text sometimes float on top of the selected text. When that happens it stops you being able to select one of the options.

When using the spritz reader the screen will dim as if you are not using the iPad. If you’re not careful about the pressure you apply to keep the screen on it can lead you to exit the spritz reader.

The spritz reader begins at the start of each page. I preferred how ReadMe! allowed you to choose where on the page to begin using the reader.

The spritz reader in ReadMe! came with more steps to allow you to increase the reading speed gradually. I find the steps in ReadOwl are too big and it hinders progressing to higher reading speeds more gradually.

After you have imported a book you can’t yet organise your epubs into folders.

Decent app with some flaws

Overall this works well, I like that it’s fast. The interface is quite clean.

Like the previous review I used ReadMe and miss the ability to chose where on the page to start speed reading.

My biggest issue is that the app randomly deletes all the books imported to it. I am not sure if this is a storage issue with iOS but it’s quite annoying to re-add the book I’m reading and find my place in it and my reading speed.

Garbage compared to the old app

This app is useless. Imported 6 books and can’t import any more, but also can’t empty the trash to reduce the number of books to see if that makes a difference.
