OmniFocus 4.5.3 includes bug fixes related to syncing, and rebuilding the database.
Mac
• Notes — Fixed a rare issue where an incoming sync, received while editing a note, could cause the most recent note edits to be lost.
• Rebuild Database — Using the Rebuild Database… command no longer merges tabs into a single window when “Prefer tabs when opening documents” is set to “Always” in System Settings.

Ratings and Reviews
Manages complexity but…
If you have to keep an eye on multiple complex projects and accountabilities, OF4 is a great tool. I appreciate the way it allows me to create very granular detail, and then show me only what I need.
As much as developers would love to sell us all project management collaboration tools, these only work if everyone wants to use them. OF4 provides a better solution: keep track of everything that’s happening in your own space.
However, OF4 on iPhone is unwieldy and slow, compared to the alternatives and works best as a companion app to the Mac version. If you need granular personal project management, then OF4 is an excellent tool that can manage great depths of information. It’s just not as slick as it could be, or at this price, should be.
Doing the big stuff well, the small less so
I’ve used OF for many years and it is fundamentally good and reliable. I appreciate the many improvements that have been made since OF3. The new layout with navigation bar is much improved, and the more independent Apple Watch app is very welcome in particular.
Unfortunately the experience so far has been marred by the frustrating drag and drop experience. Is it so much to ask that it works reliably and is clear and consistent in its action? I probably manage to get the desired outcome one in ten times at the moment. Ordering tasks is a really core part of this app. I use all the platforms other than Mac so perhaps there it works perfectly, but the same certainly cannot be said for iOS and web in my experience.
Grab an iPad, open Review on a decent size database, and start trying to add/edit/nest/order stuff in anger. I’m sure it won’t take long for you to want to rage quit!
Calm
I was an OF2 then OF3 user from 2014 until 2020, but then my work life became less complex and I switched to Things 3, which worked well until recently.
Now I have multiple projects, and multiple clients, and a couple of volunteering roles, CPD to track and so on. Everything goes into OF4, even if it’s a very granular task.
In OF, I can focus on one project, and have tasks at multiple hierarchies and not feel like I can’t see the wood for the trees. No other tool offers this kind of functionality.
In truth, OF4 is not pretty, especially compared to Things 3, and it can become a dangerous distraction if you keep tinkering with it.
OF4 is different in a few small ways, but it’s worth the money because it’s a trusted tool. As soon as I update a project in it, I feel calm. And that’s really valuable!
