Really useful app that does reduce waste

A good app that allows you use your camera to scan barcodes, for you to add to the list of what you have, which identifies some things but not all. Love the way that you can sort it in either date order or alphabetic order.
As you use items and take it off your storage area, place is it in a shopping list. The only thing is if you’ve got two packets of something it will put both packets as you use it on your shopping list as separate items.
The database needs extending more, so the barcode scanning is more efficient. The shopping list needs improving so that you do not get multiples of the same item. Also really annoying that you have to go back out of the barcode scanning /add item area to choose a separate storage e.g. fridge or pantry. Would be much more useful if you could select that as an option the same as it does for date expiry.
Good for menu planning as well and keeping track of things that get lost at the back of the fridge/freezer. Also a slight problem syncing between devices e.g. tablet and smartphone.
Has the potential to be a very useful app once these little minor niggles have been sorted out.

Surprisingly impressed!

After many years of throwing out food, buying things we already had, etc. my wife and I decided to look for something to help manage this, and settled on NoWaste.

It’s still early days but a few things have impressed me so far - very easy to sync across devices, now the kids have access and can see how many hotdogs we have before they decide how many pals to invite round. Barcode scanning has a very high rate in the UK. I had visions of a very low hit rate but it’s up around 90%.

Very flexible in terms of recording packet sizes, weights, etc. Also very easy, using the 4 predefined expiry date periods, to update a product once open. For example it may have 6 until use by, but once open must be consumed within two weeks, so simply update the expiration to 2 weeks from current date using the 2 week button.

Overall, really impressed and if we keep it up to date it will definitely make a difference to the way we shop and eat!!!

Maybe I haven’t found this yet, but a few ideas ...

Search by category - only show a certain category
Access detail of expired/eaten items - even for last 6 months
Query “close to expiry” across all fridge/freezer/pantry - to see everything nearing expiry rather than wait for individual notifications.

Love the app, very useful

It’s been now two months that I’m using this app and I can happily confirm that it works. I had many times been forced to throw expired food in the bin since I’ve missed their expiry date. Sure maybe it’s a very easy thing for some people to remember all the dates and have everything under control but I definitely found that this app was the solution for me. Since I’m working long hours recently and within Covid-19 pandemic situation this app has become a number one tool to ensure I’m using all the food in time causing me to do less shopping thus reducing my risk of catching the virus. I’ve noticed a very easy channel of communication via email with the developer who takes tour feedback and works on the reported bugs and improvements which is always great to see in the app you’re using really often. I can recommend this app for anyone to download and try. 👍
