At first look, the world you see may seem to be nothing out of the ordinary. Look beneath the surface however, and you'll find an unimaginable place filled with strange, dangerous, and delicious creatures.
The Society of Dark Cuisine is an ancient and mysterious organization comprised of brave adventurers willing to explore the unexplored and to taste the untasted. With the help of the mystical Sootsoot, they seek out and capture strange monsters in order to farm their divine ingredients.
And what do they do with these ingredients? Cook, of course! Back up above, the Sootsoot sell delicious meals to surface dwellers, raking in as much profit as possible to further expand underground. The Society of Dark Cuisine has operated for centuries, yet no one knows exactly who they are or what their ultimate goal might actually be...

Destroys boredom
I think this app is one of the best apps that I have downloaded. The imagination that has gone into this game is phenomenal and many people will agree.
A really good game with some issues.
The sheer size of this game is wonderful, there are so many things to do / interact with / discover and manage that it’ll keep you busy for hours. It’s simple enough once you get used to it, but does need some getting used to as first. The art style is also really good, and the progression feels natural and fun.
My one issue is the recipe creation and discovery - the game hinges certain very important upgrades and the discovery and improvement of certain recipes, but these recipes don’t follow any type of logic, so unless you’ve found the partial recipe within the game for a certain food, you’re stuck guessing a recipe again and again in order to progress which can be quite frustrating. It would be useful if the game progression only depended on those recipes that you already had / or had already received in part as opposed to blind guessing.
But generally speaking, a really good game!
Good for an idle game
Let me be the first to say how irritating idle games are. I do not understand the concept of a game that you progress in without playing. However, Monster Chef has elements that allow you to keep playing despite the overall ‘idle’ setting, which redeems it in my eyes.
The graphics are great, and the creators definitely have a sense of humour. Some of the translations could be improved, but most of the important bits are easy to understand.
As mentioned previously, some of the recipes feel a bit random (for example, the ‘ideal’ recipe for ‘lamb and onion rice’ contains neither lamb nor onion, even though they are both obtainable ingredients). This is irritating for anyone trying to make specific recipes.
I *love* that you can choose when to watch ads in order to gain ‘ad-skips’, and that you are never forced to watch any ads. It means I’m actually willing to run through some ads when it suits me, rather than just deleting the app due to annoying interruptions. It’s a free game, and I get that the team has to make money *somehow*. I feel this is a good way of doing it.
I would love for the game to be available offline (I’m pretty sure you can only play online atm)- the game would be an ideal commute toy.
