Description

The Minimoog Model D App is a software transmutation of the world’s first portable synthesizer, the Minimoog Model D®. Anyone can jump in and play with over 160 included presets or lay fingers to the controls and begin exploring vast magical realms of creative potential for iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and Mac.

The Minimoog Model D App incorporates a number of inspiring sound creation tools and capabilities not present on its analog antecedent. New functions include the ability to play chords with up to four-note polyphony, an easy-to-use arpeggiator for rhythmic pattern creation, a real time looping recorder with unlimited overdubbing capacity, a tempo-synchronizable stereo ping pong delay module, and the Bender -- a wide-range stereo time modulation effect module.

The Minimoog Model D App also supports AUv3 Audio Unit extensions, which allows multiple instances of this powerful instrument to be used simultaneously within Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) supporting AUv3. Wrappers are available to use as a AUv2 or VST3 plug-in for any DAW that does not support AUv3.

The Minimoog Model D MacOS App requires MacOS 11.2 to work.

A BRIEF HISTORY
Introduced by Moog in 1970, the Minimoog Model D served as the archetype for all electronic keyboards that followed. It gave users the ability to design their own sounds, translating imagination into reality. The Minimoog’s portability, affordability and accessibility made it the go-to instrument for musicians looking to expand beyond the traditional sounds of the time. Bernie Worrell used the Minimoog Model D to establish Parliament Funkadelic’s futuristic funk sound. Kraftwerk employed the Minimoog Model D on the successful concept album Autobahn, sparking an entirely new genre. Gary Numan replaced his live band’s guitars with Minimoog Model Ds, creating the prototype for industrial music. The classic sound of the Minimoog Model D can be heard on Bob Marley’s Catch A Fire, Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Dr. Dre’s The Chronic; Detailed in the mini-doc series “A Brief History Of The Minimoog”.

Best synth app I’ve bought this year!

I’ve bought a lot of iPad synths and this is my new favourite! Great sounds, much easier to use than the model 15 this will keep me entertained for ages! Please bring out more. I love the Moog sound but I could never afford to buy the real thing. Another great feature is the loop function so you can lay down a bass line and jam along with a new sound for your lead. I like the extra packs you can download . Would have been nice if they were included with the original price. But they were pretty cheap and had a good selection of sounds to use as a starting point for making your own unique sound. Hopefully more packs are added in future. Keep up the great work look forward to the next cool app you guys bring out,

Superb

Although I am interested in soundscapes acquiring a real Moog synth was only secondary to my musical interests and their high price range is well above my disposable income. However spending a few quid on the app version is a total feast, add a MIDI controller and you are set for a long and spectacular journey of sonic discovery now available to anyone for less than the price of a dinner for two. Is some philanthropist subsidising this? So generous of you to make this complex and sophisticated instrument available to the multitude. Thank you!

Nooooooo!!! ,

Consistently Moog quality

I have all the Moog apps so far and sound quality wise this is just as great as the others. They probably wanted to go with a more purist/traditionalist approach with the Model D to keep up the endless cult of legacy, hence the lack of animoog style keyboard option and the polyphony tucked away in settings. I guess there shouldn’t be a reason to complain for the price, but I still really miss the MPE and see no sense in mindlessly sticking to a traditional piano keyboard just because the minimoog was limited to that. The expressive potential of ios devices was the whole point of making these apps on this platform in the first place wasn’t it.. I also find the factory patches surprisingly lacklustre compared to previous releases but who cares really.
This is still a very good instrument and lives up to Moog standards

Developer Response ,

Hey there! The Minimoog Model D app has support for MPE input, you can activate it by selecting MPE as the Input MIDI channel in the settings. We're looking into making the keyboard in the app by more expressive with vertical expression, if that's what you're looking for. Please stay tuned for a future update.
