Lex: Queer Social LGBT Friends 17+

every queer person looking for community needs this app

i’m not too sure how lex is for dating, but for making local queer friends and finding a community, it’s amazing. my medium sized english town that i thought was totally queer unfriendly now has a lex group chat of over 30+ members and we’ve done multiple meet-ups. they’re all brilliant! thank you to the group chat feature.

my only issue with the app is the post limit. i understand why it’s there, to avoid spam, but 6 posts per month is too few. spam is uncommon and all that seems to happen is people join the app, get really excited, use up their limit and leave the app within a week or two. similarly, i’ve seen people join the app and immediately complain that they might only see one post a day.

i’ve noticed a handful of users, myself included, get excited that lex could be a queer twitter, especially now that twitter is such a hostile space towards queer people, only to be disappointed that it’s not really possible. i understand if the devs don’t want to take the app in that direction, but i think increasing the post limit at least slightly would benefit everyone!

P.S. please fix how links function! at least include a button to open them in an external browser.

Gone Downhill

Lex used to be a great app for exactly what it set out to do - friends, dating, community. Plenty of features, with the one-time no photo option being something of a neat gimmick. Sure the update of its UI and the addition of groups along with the ability to add photos some time a year or two ago were nice touches, but the app can be described as a cash grab at this point.

You’re pressured into buying more posts, which is fair enough. You’re pressured into buying the chance to explore people’s profiles near you. You now have to pay to have your post anywhere near the top of the main feed. To top it all off, there’s next to no moderation and the app is overran with chasers, bots and people trying to sell you drugs on every other post.

I get it, you need to cover the expense of running the app and such - but when there’s no real obvious return on all the in-app purchases being forced in your face for basic functions that we had for free not even a month or two ago? You may as well either make the app paid for or better yet, you’re better off not using the app in the first place and go elsewhere.

I’ve used this app for several years, and it’s a shame to see the developers not really caring barring changing the colour to free and adding the absolute to have groupchats. It’s increasingly difficult to fully recommend this app.

Still though, the few people who still use it in the UK regularly make it a good laugh.

Pros and cons with new interface

I like the new interface, comments are great. But it feels like everything I do there is a pop up prompt, and it’s a bit much. Just let me chill! Also I don’t love that most interaction is from people outside my city. I want to post stuff for my city to see, not random people all over. It’s community right
