Awful way of topping up your phone
To top up your phone you’d think you would just have to select a package and pay for it. But no, first you have to top up your credit and then pay for the package using your credit. But between those two things they will take tax off so your 60RM paid only becomes 56RM of credit. There’s no way to pay tax at the credit stage so that you actually get the amount that you want in your account. So then you have to top up your credit again. I’ve never seen a more needlessly complicated way of doing things and it’s entirely designed to make you pay more than you want to. I’m sure having everyone paying a little bit more than they need to is a nice little earner for Maxis though. I also find it bizarre that when your package runs out, this isn’t one of the apps that still works. Facebook does but the app that would allow you to buy more credit doesn’t.
Avoid like the plague
As many other people mentioned you cannot top up to the correct amount so you always have stupid left over credit to buy packages for the right value. Luckily I was at a store and asked them to correct the amount because they were walking me through the steps to do the top up and when I couldn’t purchase the package I said I wanted despite following the steps they refunded me the credit card charge. I cannot believe there is no warning that they’ll be taking money off the top.
