Doesn’t connect or loses connection

Smart support had been unable to resolve the fact that the app doesn’t reliably connect to the car or update. No point in having it as just didn’t work. After being asked to reinstall and reconnect a number of times with no success I am was told to wait for an update in February. The problem is that the online services switch turns off every time you leave the car - it is disappointing that the car was sold with defective software — surely these things are tested - and also quite shocking that Smart support denied the problem and didn’t admit to there being an issue. The good news is that the latest version of the car operating system fixes this and also introduces a number of other useful enhancements. So all good but should have been fixed to start with.

Definitely not Smart

Edit: I’m revising my score to 3 stars. The car received an OTA update that fixed the app connectivity issue, so that argument is no longer a problem. With that said, many functions do not work or provide no feedback that they are working. The seat heating appears to work, but doesn’t show up as heating in the app. The same is for in car heating. It works, but the app doesn’t seem to show anything happening.

Bluetooth key is still completely unavailable, which is the one thing I had really wanted from this, so 3 stars is as good as it gets for now.

I use an alternative app called “Hello #” that is currently in beta. It is vastly superior and I’d highly suggest looking it up.

Initial review:
The app is unfortunately completely non-functional as the other review states. I’m tech savvy and have paired, unpaired, deleted my account, cleared app data cache and absolutely nothing gets it to work properly. The initial pairing process is promising in that it correctly reports vehicle status, but that is it. My app is telling me the car is at 96% and unlocked with all options (climate control and even Find My) greyed out. The car is actually at 80% so some communication is just failing here. I’ve enabled all permissions possible for the app and triple checked the car settings and manual. It is 100% broken, avoid completely until a major update or fix is announced. Completely unacceptable.

What a let down

Had my car for one day, I love it but this app is abysmal. The only location it recorded was hours ago in a car park, it still says my car is there and it also says it’s unlocked! It’s not. The car is on my drive and no amount of locking/unlocking changes the app. I’ve allowed all settings, given it full access to my location, restarted my phone, deleted the app, re-paired to the car and it’s still useless. The app for my Kona was not only more functional but also way more accurate and updated continuously. There is also no way to share keys on the UK which is also terrible considering it’s all over the website. Come on devs, the car deserves better than this tripe.
