Description

Want to focus better on what you're doing? Focus Time is a beautifully designed timer for people who want to avoid distractions and get more done.

LifeHacker: "Keeps You On-Task and Productive"

Want to eliminate the anxiety of time and enhance your focus and concentration?

The key is to apply yourself to tasks by working in units of 25 minutes, separated by short breaks of 5 minutes.

The steps are:

1. Choose a task to accomplish
2. Start timer
3. Work until timer rings
4. Take a short break
5. Every 4 sessions, take a longer break

Focus Time will automatically switch between the work timer and the long/short break timers, as well as counting the number of sessions you've completed. You can select an activity and see a graph of how you're spending your time.

Don't worry about taking a call or switching to another app while using Focus Time - the timer will carry on running even in the background.

Nicely implemented, but has a flaw

I've tried a number of Pomodoro apps for the iPhone, and this seems to be the best one. Using the app is intuitive, the graphics are nicely done, and you get a reasonable degree of customisation.

The flaw of the app, in my opinion, is that the timer does not stop at the end of the Pomodoro period. Instead, it goes straight into the timer for the break period. At least it does stop at the end of the break period, unlike some other apps. The problem for me is that if the Pomodoro timer ends while I'm still a couple of minutes away from a natural break-point in my work, it's better for me to work that couple of minutes longer, then take the break. By this point, the app is already half way through timing my break.

I am willing to believe that most people find the way the app works fine, but I can't believe I'm the only person who wants to have manual control of when the break time starts. An option to allow this would be very welcome.

Does what it needs to, but could do a lot more

This app is a perfectly functional Pomodoro Timer. However, that is all it does. So if you want more in the way of task management and analysis you need to look elsewhere. It could do with a few more options like optional ticking (that sound helps keep me focused as when I hear it I know I am supposed to be working, it does let you adjust the work and rest times though. Looks very pretty while it is timing though, but could use some sort of colour change as you progress through the work period (Green->Yellow->Red, Maybe?). Cost slightly too much for the features (just a timer) that it offers, though hopefully they will add more over time.
