Great Hardware, Poorly Designed App

I’ve been using the Sonoff app for several years, and while the devices themselves are absolutely fantastic—well-designed, reliable, and far superior in build quality to most competitors—the app has consistently fallen short of expectations.

The app’s usability is frustratingly outdated and clunky, especially when it comes to adding new devices. The process often fails, even for devices that work seamlessly on other Zigbee platforms. Many features feel incomplete or poorly implemented, and some devices either don’t pair correctly or have broken functionality within the app.

Given the quality of Sonoff’s hardware, it’s disappointing that the app doesn’t match the same high standard. My recommendation to Sonoff would be to significantly invest in improving the app’s user experience and functionality or focus exclusively on what they excel at: making great hardware.

Until then, the app feels like the weak link in an otherwise strong product offering.

Long term user Review

I have read some of the reviews regarding connecting the Sonoff devices to the Ewelink App. I have been using the App and the devices for a long time now and have never had an issue. (Wifi Wall switches, TH16 Switches, Plug-in Wifi Wall sockets, Wifi 4Channel Switches). I have these controlling many many different devices from TV's to Outside lights to Heating Boilers. More than 25+ in various locations! not just my home. The only time I have ever had an issue, it was the incoming router which had the problem, so a reboot of the router sorted that out. I use many wifi devices at home and at work and find these to be the most reliable for connecting and really easy to set up. I am by no means an expert at electronics and just need a simple control system, which does what is basically required without all the unnecessary bells and whistles which seemed to have crept into a lot of the other Wifi controllers and Apps. They work really well with Alexa and the signal strength is brilliant. I'm not sponsored or affiliated with the company or developer etc, in any way. Just a satisfied long term customer.

Recent updates

The app is still used on a daily bases and recently I have start to link the scenes to Siri on my iPhone. The problem is the Siri overtime forgets the scenes or says “I’m sorry there seems to be a problem.” When you try to remove them and set up the same scene, it won’t let you add it to Siri shortcut because iOS believes that the original shortcuts are still in use. There are ways around this but it is still not user friendly for a feature in theory should be really useful. For example I ask Siri when I’m driving home to open the gates or when leaving to turn on a lighting scene around the house.
From what I can see and read in the reviews and comments the developers aren’t too bothered about listening to the users or responding. I have had it with similar apps where developers will respond and eventually fix an issue. I hope they do see these types of Reviews as EWeLink is a great app in terms of what it is trying to provide.
