Source: Samuel L. Blumenfield, "How Should We Teach Our Children to Write? Cursive First, Print Later!"

The British Dyslexia association recommend that children learn the continuous cursive style. The cursive style has some significant advantages for Dyslexic students. The key advantages to this system are:

* By making each letter in one movement, children’s hands develop a ‘physical memory’ of it, making it easier to produce the correct shape;

* Because letters and words flow from left to right, children are less likely to reverse letters which are typically difficult (like b/d or p/q);

* There is a clearer distinction between capital letters and lower case;

* The continuous flow of writing ultimately improves speed and spelling.

A Great Little App

Having tried and loved this app, I am in the process of buying multiple licences for my school. It is almost perfect. My only gripe is that you can't change the letter demo speed. I play it a number of times to make up for it. A nice extra would be number formation, with the ability to select the number style. I would highly recommend this app.

Thank you to Vicky for replying to my comments. It is great to know that you are so responsive. I had another thought about the product - It would be great if you had the option to switch between the letter names and sounds, or do both.

Developer Response ,

Dear shfirefly,
Thank you for this feedback, we are planning to update in the next few months and this is definitely on the update list!
Thanks again,
Vicky

Not a great user experience

The demonstration is far too fast and there’s no way a 5 year old could follow it. It wouldn’t accept several attempts at an adult drawing letter a. Needless to say I didn’t let this app loose on my child.

Developer Response ,

Dear jith123,
The demo is not supposed to be followed, child can see the letter being modelled and then attempt their own letter after seeing the demo. It is a good idea to have a mode where children could follow a slowly paced model of the letter and we are definitely going to look into this being a feature in our upcoming update. Thanks for the feedback, Vicky
