Ratings and Reviews
So very nearly awesome
Two words. 'Draw distance'. Ships can (and do) appear and disappear at around 3000 yards. Not fade in or out, just not be there then suddenly there. It makes some attacks massively frustrating. You know there are six ships and five escorts, but the viewing distance is only letting you see three or four ships. So down to 5 torpedoes you take the shots, three torpedoes away and suddenly, boom, a battleship appears in the periscope, large as life and 3000 yards away, but not enough torpedoes to sink it. Had you seen the ship you could tailor your attack better and take that one rather than the piddly targets. Maybe its beyond the ipads abilities for the draw distance, perhaps a clue to the convoy configuration when the game prompts a convoy found? Other than that (admittedly huge) issue, the game plays well and is good fun to play. Though somehow the destroyers know EXACTLY where you fired from when you hit a ship. It could be less interesting if they didnt know, but it does 'feel' off. All that said, I keep coming back to play it so it must be good.
New submarine
The game is great except for the fact that there is only one submarine and that you cannot buy better ones overall great game though 4/5 stars
The good old days
When I was younger (so much younger than today…) I bought a game called WolfPack. You had to download it on to your ancient PC using 3.5” discs. That’s how long ago it was!
Crash Dive harkens back to that wonderful game that I used to play for hours back in the day. The graphics in Crash Dive are better, not quite as pixelated, but the gameplay is very similar with the same level of tension as you loose a torpedo at the enemy and then execute a dive/turn and throw out your decoys before the escorts can spoil your day with their depth-charges.
I haven’t tried to dive really deep yet but I bet you’ll start hearing the creaking and the occasional popping of a rivet.
The game is very realistic but doesn’t bog you down with the technicalities of operating ‘Das Boot.’
My only wish? That your sub could actually be part of a pack, coordinating movements and electing targets.
You can almost smell the oil!
