Brick - Ditch Distractions 4+

I bought Brick and as a UK user had to pay quite a lot to get one. I do really like it but 1) It was problematic trying to block safari, the instructions didn’t work brilliantly but I got there in the end. 2) I have found work arounds for example if I have a hyperlink in my notes app I can follow it and get online even if the browsers are locked, when I find one I try and block the app which leaves me to
My biggest issue 3) the app crashes when setting up which apps are blocked. Brick acknowledge this and I eventually get there but it has been annoying that I have to try repeatedly before I can block an app and finally 4) I don’t have any emergency unbricks for some reason which means I can only brick the phone when physically near the hardware as I don’t want to have to delete the app and start all again!
Overall though it’s a useful tool which is allowing me to be much more present at bedtime with my kids.

I have two modes - a focus mode where I restrict access to social media and games, but I still have access to browsing; and a sleep mode which only allows dumb phone and messaging. This has helped keep me focussed at work and prevent insomnia episodes being prolonged by phone use.

Minor gripe; the mode editor has a ‘block’ or ‘allow’ switch which isn’t clear how I can have an ‘allow’ list for sleep mode, and a ‘block’ list for focus mode. It seems to be just one or the other. I would find it more useful if allow/block could be set per mode because it gives flexibility on how strict the controls are.

I’ve just received my Brick and I just wanted to say thank you! I’m 47 and grew up without phones or the internet. I used to do worthwhile things like play the piano, read, go exploring, write poems and just spend time thinking.

I love all the tools on my smartphone - always having a camera, being able to navigate with maps, organising my to do lists and so much more - but I’ve really struggled with iPhone addiction. Brick has given me my life back. I think what you’re doing is vitally important and I’d love to see it become really widespread.
