Ratings and Reviews
It’s ok
Not the greatest app but so far appears to do what it says on the tin. I use an iPhone 12 Pro Max and using iOS 18.0.1. I was able to transfer some photos but haven’t tried doing videos yet. The photos transferred reasonably quick so hoping the same goes for videos. The app definitely needs to updated though. It’s not the most user friendly UI and there are serious issues with not being able to see anything you type in.
For example, I created some folders and named them but I can’t see the name of the folders. They show a date and time they were created in a white font but the name I gave them can’t be seen. I’m assuming it’s because the folder bar is black and the font color is also black but I’m for certain. I tried to send feedback through the app’s feedback button but faced the same issue. The email text box was white and I assume the font color was also white because I couldn’t see anything I was typing as I was typing it not could I see it when I finished. The suggestions box was the same but its box was black and the font was black.
It’s also probably not a good sign when you hit the submit button on your feedback and get a pop up box that says ‘Could not connect to server’
Horrible App! NOT MAC FRIENDLY!
NOTE: AVOID THIS APP AND ALL DEVICES THAT USE IT! Why can’t someone write an app that will read various makes of usb flash drive for iPhone??? ALL OF THEM seem to have this proprietary thing so if you have 17 makes of usb flash drive, you have to have 17 mostly worthless and horrible apps like this one!
If I could give it zero stars, I would. Five words: NOT MAC OR IPHONE FRIENDLY! 1) Get out your stone knives and bearskins. Alphabetic sort function DOESN’t work if you use non-8.3 fileNames. 2) Interface will not rotate to phone landscape orientation, though it will play videos in landscape view. 3) Starts playing video again shortly after you pause the video if you don’t either eject the usb drive or quit the app. So, if you’re watching a movie, and pause to use the bathroom or get a soda, you come back and find that the movie has been playing and you’ve missed part of it. Then … 4) You can’t resume where you left off because it’s impossible to move the progress bar to anywhere near where you wanted to start watching again. 5) Ugly interface. End rant.
P.S. I tried the other 2 “Y-Disk apps — HD & Pro — they wouldn’t even recognize the Y-Disk usb external. Utterly worthless!!
Worked for me
Not sure why all the negative reviews, except maybe the instruction book is such small print it was hard to read? My purpose for this USB was not to back up my phone, but to copy one photo album off my phone to my PC so I could then create a Shutterfly book of my last vacation. Because the print was so small, I had to guess a bit about getting the album imported to the thumb drive, but I eventually muddled through. I was able to sort the thumb drive pics, both on the thumb drive and on my PC, by date created, which was very important to me. I’m also not sure where the privacy concerns stem from, unless folks are worried about downloading the app from the App Store (as in downloading a worm or something)? I’m choosing to trust the App Store…The app did not require any personal information or passwords to use. So anyway, as far as I’m concerned, it worked a little better than expected as I thought I might have to download all my photos instead of just one album.
