Wilmington History
I don't consider myself a history "buff". However I have always been interested in the city I live in. This is a great idea especially considering tourist season is around the corner.
Nice opportunity for tour
We visited on a Monday, when many museums are closed. This app provided a great opportunity for us to get some history while strolling at our own pace through the area. It sparked our interest in additional information and provided us with what appears to be a good overview of the history of Wilmington. This was definitely worth the $3.99 for the portion we purchased. We may try another option another day, if we get time. Thank you for providing us an innovative way to learn about Wilmington!
One more thing... I did a lot of searching and don’t even remember where I found the info about this app. I feel lucky to have found it; maybe find a way to advertise this more would be helpful to others.
Uninteresting
My family and I visited Wilmington and wanted to learn about its history, culture, and architecture. We downloaded the “Second Street to the River” tour. Unfortunately it is merely a collection of dates and names with little to no context and virtually no attempt to make the stops interesting. For example, the tour states that until 1929, travelers had to take a ferry to cross the river. My son asked why it was so hard to build a bridge here as the river is not notably wide - any context of this type would have been helpful. We know little more about the city after taking the tour than we did when we started - who founded the City? Why in this location? What was it that made it a thriving place? The tour’s monotonous narration elicited no passion for the place or its history and seems like a missed opportunity to introduce visitors to what is clearly a very cool city. Save your money and get the free visitors maps instead.
