Great resource

This is the best Gaeilge resource I’ve found. Highly recommended.

AI use = 0 academic integrity

I am SHOCKED to find that the banner image for the welcome article is clearly AI generated: a sign reading “CÉÁD MÁ’LE FĀIILTĒ” (as opposed to Céad Míle Fáilte) as well as a man’s head clearly on backwards. The more I looked it seems that nearly EVERY SINGLE IMAGE is AI generated, all with too many fingers, impossible teeth or clothes, nonsense words, or that general weird gummy texture.

Looking further: none of the articles are credited to writers, translators, or any other content sources. Why should I believe that any of these were written or translated by real people? Why should I trust TYM as an educational resource when all it is BY ITS OWN ADMISSION is articles (allegedly) written for children’s comprehension THEN translated as literally as possible, with little to no idioms or cultural semantics to be presented or explained. If I wanted literal translation of simple words and phrases Duolingo is far more credible.

Any presence of AI generated content in education should violate any and all assumption of academic authority full stop.

This is extremely disappointing and disheartening. As a native English speaker in a country where there are only a handful of resources available to potential learners I was super excited to hear about TYM on TikTok. Most in-person Irish language instruction in my country is restricted to members-only diaspora clubs in large cities or one-on-one lessons from native speakers advertised only by word of mouth. TYM seemed like a good way to apply and develop what I’ve been learning on Duolingo, especially because I’m the only learner in my entire family and immediate community- the only speaking or writing that I encounter is my own.
