Just say CSX. ,

Good Game, Though it has it’s Flaws

I’ve been played three copies of Trainz [TS10, TS12, and T:ANE]. Out of the three I find T:ANE the most user friendly and I enjoy the help of the settings to reduce the problems on my MacBook. The graphics are fairly well done, usually decently crisp and well executed. However, the game is chronicly laggy, even on lowest settings. Lowering settings reduces the lag to a reasonable amount, though it’s definatly still present. T:ANE does crash a fair amount, mostly in content manager and surveyor. The game also uses a very large amount of disk space, which is really alright unless you intend to create content or install large amounts of DLC for the game in which case an external hard drive is highly recommended. Overall, the game is pretty good if you’re use is simply to run default trains on default routes. If you’re going for content creation or recordings, though it can be done, this game on a MacBook is not the way to go.

Simulators over Games ,

It may be better than nothing if you REALLY like trains.

Buggy, choppy and crashes CONSTANTLY, but it does work to some degree and it is better than nothing - so long as you expect it to be buggy and choppy and crash all the time.

This installed and opens with little to no problems for me on my entry-level iMac.
I have the settings turned down as low as they will go in an effort to smooth out the framerate, which was mildly successful.
The steam locomotives are buggy to point of being practically unusable, which is very disapointing to me because getting to run steam was the biggest reason I bought the game.
Only a very few Routes come with the game and they are poorly executed (i.e. trees placed in the middle of the tracks). I don’t know if the payware Routes are any better, because what comes with the initial purchase is of such low quality that I’m very, very hesitant to put any more money into it.

I can’t over-emphasize that it crashes literally nearly all of the time - I would conservatively estimate that the game completely crashes at least 4 out of 5 times I run a train. I believe I have only actually exited the game two or three times (ever) because usually I just stop playing after a crash.

So while I appreciate that this app provides me a train simulator on my iMac, it does not run well or smoothly and it does crash constantly - but it’s still better than nothing for someone looking for something (anything) realistic to play with trains on their Apple computer.

Slow, but i see great potential

Slightly laggy, crashes every once in a while but when i crank up the graphics (despite lag) it is super detailed. Works great with Download Station and they have done some more extensive research into what the horns sound like on most of the trains.

I reccomend this game to those of you who have an intel i7 processor or better, but looks really nice on any computer.
