Clean interface and does its job
Great app, was looking for something to do just this with a nice clean interface. The one issue I ran into which has caused me to give 4 stars instead of 5 was after doing a routine cleanup of which apps I allow to have cell data access, the app will not run (specifically complains about cell data). I am a little confused on what that would be needed for to use this.
Developer Response ,
Hi Brian - Tasmotrol does notrequire cell data as long as it has WIFI. If WIFIis not available it tries to fall back to cell-data (e.g. for use from external via VPN).If you don´t use it without WIFI, then you should be able to remove cell data access from Tasmotrol and you should be able to continue to use it with no problem. This worked fine in our testing. If this is not in line with your experience, let us know via mail and we look into it in more detail for the next update. We also try to make the messaging around data usage a bit more clear in future updates. Thanks for the review for sure!
Keeps asking me to buy pro
Here is a revised version that follows the Apple App Store guidelines:
I purchased the Pro version of this app, but it has major issues. When setting up certain plugs, you need to connect to the plug’s Wi-Fi. During this process, the app forgets my Pro purchase, even if I start the app connected to the internet. As soon as I switch to the plug’s network, the app loses track of my Pro status. This issue is incredibly frustrating and unlike anything I’ve experienced with other apps.
The app is also extremely slow when scanning the IP range. I’ve used multiple network scanners, and they can complete the same task three to four times faster. Given that this app is supposed to help set up Matter devices, it’s almost guaranteed you’ll lose internet access during setup. Forgetting the Pro purchase when this happens is an unacceptable oversight.
Additionally, when I first purchased the app, it was a one-time fee, but now they’ve switched to a subscription model. I can’t imagine asking users to pay a subscription for something this unreliable. I do not recommend this app to anyone.
Developer Response ,
Hello - thanks for the feedback - some inputs and comments:
- Usually you setup the devices (on-boarding to your network) before you add them to Tasmotrol, so that the network search can find all devices at once. Then the current required internet access to keep Pro mode enabled is not an issue at all. The vast majority of our users do it that way - actually we never tested on-boarding from the Tasmotrol internal browser.
- The network search uses a multiple step process to make sure that only Tasmota devices are recognized and also evaluates the firmware version, to provide information about "timer" support, which extends the search time. As you do search only when adding new devices we not considered that as a major issue, but will try to improve search speed in future versions
- Tasmotrol is not intended to setup Matter devices, Tasmotrol does not deal with Matter at all, it uses direct http:// communication!
- The Pro subscription options are additional to the one time purchase! You can decide which option suits you best. Some users prefer a very low monthly subscription over a one time purchase (which is still available for those preferring this and will always be available). Also we have been developing Tasmotrol adding new features constantly for 3 years now with free updates and many new features (timer support, mutl. dashboards, groups, etc.) and fast user support.
- You are right that the current required internet access to keep Pro mode active, is not optimal in some other situations (e.g. some users use Tasmotrol in their caravan with only local network access). For this reason we will change that requirement in the next upcoming version, only requiring internet access every 7 days, to keep Pro mode enabled. Should you still be interested in testing a beta version with that change, contact us to do so.

Great app
App is great, but it pulls the host name of the plug and it appears you can’t edit it. You should have the ability to override and use the friendly name of the plug, either ask user for password to read plug config, or allow to change in the app. Fix that and it a pure 5 star app…
Developer Response ,
Hi Mikem, thanks for the rating and input. We guess you are referring to the name showing on the tile in the dashboard? You would like to override this to a custom name? A device might have several friendly names. If you don´t mind could you provide us some more information on the desired behaviour via e-mail and we are happy to look into it for future versions.
