Ratings and Reviews
What is the Goal- Beginner and Fluent in Hebrew use it with a Shiur.
Being familiar with some elucidations or Notes and Halacha brought down if you want to fulfill an amount and not a time frame, if you add Rashi you should get it done.
I am more familiar with the print. But over the years I don’t believe this was intended for people who have a background. For at the time of its inception. It’s clear from historical, background, speculations about locations based on archeological studies. As an Academic Text for secularist Jews. It cannot be dismissed and it may motivate them but one must be careful when something is too public. Unfortunately many people are not open minded and have an agenda, for people who are on the fence or used to learning this is not sufficient.
So if you have learnt in Hesder or YU or even went to Most modern observant day schools, utilizing this is definitely a step down.
Not Specific to Steinsaltz, but in General there are more in depth elucidations that are accurate, and doing a full page a day is not the way to measure gains, without a basic accurate understanding and constant review it’s an exercise, or you want to say you finished SHas..a “be gazunt”. But if you’re goal is to learn to get closer to HaShem and understand truly.. better two hours on a paragraph than a quick read. That’s what this elucidation does it allows for a fluid reading without adding much more.
TANACH I am not a Rav, but I know enough having read his introduction He is not a Metargem. And without a Hascma whether it’s Rav Avital, the Gerre Rebbe, etc… it can’t be used as a Targum it’s his personal understanding of Chumash hopefully based on commentaries.
“Targum” if you want maybe Aryeh Kaplan and it may be along the lines of the Aryeh Kaplan translations.
You cannot learn Torah and Navi without realizing they are intertwined with the Talmud. And in terms of a translation it’s not either.
So if your looking to get an idea of what The Oral component is it’s a start. But without full verses presented in original Hebrew there are methods that the Wise men conveyed with this tradition, and without a detailed introduction to concept like “Gezeirah Shavah “ or “Binyan Av” outside of more complex comparisons from which the law is derived. Your defeating the purpose. If you can’t except the Mishna on Face value here is the Discourse that explains that.
If your being Kovea Itim, and not interested in depth, but want to attain the basic gist..If you use this there are many lectures online that are on different levels, that will assist you in filling in gaps, or there are better supplemental materials in assisting than this work.
This was not intended for Academic scrutiny beyond those who spoke Modern Hebrew and today globally Secular Pluralism is very popular in the west…despite its constant historical failures..even on a community level Mir you monitor Kibbutz declines.
Overall I am of the mindset if you have an hour quality over quantity, and this source alone that you made an effort to learn do 5-7 Mishnayot with Kehati.
His Works on written Torah have no haskamot.. in his introduction he is very clear that with trepidation he takes on the task of elucidating. And Gefen and ArtScroll have excellent works on Onkelos..I don’t believe in Metargamim.
Great idea and project; no responsiveness to fixing iPad serious errors in Hebrew
The text size won’t adjust on ikar hadaf in Hebrew and the Hebrew formatting is wrong on the Tanakh and Chumash, no spaces between words on the perush and the text. And he refers in the Greek text shows of his gibberish. A number of other serious formatting errors on the iOS version, I’m only leaving this review since I have not gotten any reply or resolution from multiple feedback bug reports from the app and I am hoping that perhaps through this format and the developers this will reach them. Thank you so much for a wonderful project an app on this formatישר כוכחכם תזכו למצוות
