This Is The One! Buy it Now!

I’ve been an App Store user since the early 2010s and it’s rare for me to take the time to write a review. This might even be my first App Store review, I honestly don’t know.

The Pins apps for iPhone and MacOs are simply the best apps for managing Pinboard bookmarks, bar none. Just buy it now and skip the rest of my review. :)

The interfaces are great, the apps work super well, and the price is absolutely reasonable. You also aren’t stuck paying a monthly subscription for something that is more of a niche utility.

The developer has also been keeping these apps up to date through the different versions of MacOs, the recent changes to the Pinboard API’s ,etc.

I have lso bought other Pinboard apps in the past that worked great but ended-up being abandoned. It’s a niche market, so I get it. But this one is way better than any of the other ones that I paid for in the past.

Just wanted to try and offer a “thanks for such a great app and keeping it up to date” from a fellow Software Engineer who has no association with the company/person who is building this. It’s probably not a big money maker but I am very appreciative of something that really checks all of the boxes for managing Pinboard bookmarks natively on your Mac and iPhone.

If you are looking to manage Pinboard from iPhone or MacOS, just buy it now! Support this developer for such a great app that is also still being updated.

Excellent

Update: many thanks to the developer for granting and extended trial. The app has really come along nicely and I’m thrilled that it also works on Mac (it is much better than the pinboard website). Happy to pay for the full version.

Looks good but… I’ll update this review when I’ve had a chance to really evaluate the app, but that’s the problem: I’m struggling to do so because of the free mode limits. For example I bookmarked ONE item, attempted to edit that one’s metadata, and was told I couldn’t because I can save only once per 5 minutes. Save a thing and the making a note on it is the most basic thing I want to use the app for and try. Same when I try to add another bookmark… gotta wait a few minutes. I just think for folks to get a feel for the app and whether to upgrade, they have to be able to use it.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for the feedback. Feel free to reach out to me directly via the Email Support function in the app — I can grant access to an extended trial so that you can better evaluate the app.

The free mode in the app is intended to showcase Pins' basic feature set: ability to load large number of bookmarks (100,000+), advanced filtering, share extension, etc. The limits are there to nudge people to upgrade, it's tricky to balance them.

Best Pinboard app around, and it's not even close

I have been a Pinboard user for over half a decade at this point. The weakness of the Pinboard ecosystem has always been its poor iPhone companion apps. No longer!

I have tried nearly every single iPhone app for Pinboard, including Pinner and Pushpin (the previous top apps, which haven't been properly updated in years), Pinswift, Simple Pin, and more, and Pins is by far the fastest, best designed, and most functional. The only other app that seems to be consistently updated is Pinstachio, but it's interface is nowhere near the quality level of Pins.

Extra points for charging a one time upgrade fee instead of a subscription. It was a no-brainer on day one. Thanks for this wonderful app!
