OtO Lawn 12+

In my front lawn, there’s a big tree and therefore no good place to mount Oto; with a single stream, weird shapes are not a problem but if there’s a tree in the way this is not an ideal solution vs. irrigation system. My back lawn didn’t have that problem and by mounting it on the side of a shed, 2 feet off the ground I was able to get almost 40 ft of range from it. The accuracy seems to decline as the distance increases. Obviously the “spread” of water is wider at a distance, but also it seems to overshoot the points a bit. I will tinker with them but am hesitant to use the solutions with it when I’m not sure the right fertilizer will end up in the right place. As a sprinkler, it’s expensive but will save me a lot of time and hassle.
App itself is simple and straightforward- barebones but it does what you need with a lot less complexity than RainPoint or Orbit. Well done guys by focusing on basics.

The product is a great addition to the watering capabilities. It’s basically someone standing with a hose and pointing it around your yard, but programmed. That said, it is very basic compared to most watering systems. You can only water once a day, which is … strange. There is no history or water usage details. You can’t check and see if your stuff got watered. The manual watering is problematic. It’s seems like, to save battery, the system only check in every 5 minutes. That’s fine. But, I’ve plugged mine in, and that doesn’t seem to change anything. More importantly, the UX doesn’t provide any useful feedback. I want my dad to get one, but I can’t do a problem free demo.

The app, at a minimum, needs history and more details on the manual watering. It needs to say when it has registered with the cloud, and when it is waiting on the base station. The spinning thing often takes more than 5 minutes to work. Today, I went out and pressed the button (which isn’t even a button) and it still never came on…. Or maybe it did, but didn’t say anything. No history, so I don’t know.

The Device: We just moved into our house last year and the price for a sprinkler system was very high. We went with the OtO lawn watering system instead and were able to cover our entire front lawn for far cheaper. The unit was easy to setup and the directed spray pattern reduces water waste. The App: The app made it super easy to setup by defining my boundaries, and then the app mapped the pattern required to cover my area with minimal overspray. You select your water application rate in inches / week and the app uses a smart schedule to work out when and how much to water your lawn. It will even skip a watering cycle if it rained the night before of if rain is forecasted for that day.
