Ratings and Reviews
Absolutely love obsidian
I'm building a personal knowledgebase in the app and I love it. It is not user friendly per se like notion but it is much more flexible and once you get the hang of using markdown I think it's much faster. I love how the software just gets out of the way and supports me without making me have to change my process to adapt to the tool, I can just iterate on my thoughts, link notes, and organize information naturally without thinking about how I want to use information later. For example in notion, you can't build a database from your notes easily or use that information elsewhere outside of it's database quickly but with dataview (community plugin) it's pretty flexible and information that becomes useful later is easier to locate.
The new UI overhaul threw me for a loop and I had just gotten pretty fast at the old way and now I have to re-train my thumbs but it does look a little cleaner and more modern now. I wish there would have been a headsup and option to revert back. I mean this is my second brain and now it looks different. It's kind of a shock.
The best
I’m gonna start by saying that the mobile version doesn’t have me as interested, I usually use the Apple notes app as it’s easy to create and find all of the notes and I can save on my email accounts to prevent loosing data, but I am actually considering a switch, because I can still save it in my iCloud. But the desktop web version of obsidian is so so so good. I use the computer so much and when I found this app I almost cried in happiness…you can customize it however you want with plugins, gives me so much freedom and as someone who always likes to change things up this is perfect. The way it’s organized by tabs it’s my most favorite feature, on google I always have like a thousand tabs open as I can’t deal with loosing where I was last at when working or studying, so I can switch so easy in between things and I love that. One thing that I seriously don’t like is that you have to pay for obsidian sync. I could have all of my computer notes in my phone as well, and if something happens to my computer I can keep my notes on my phone, but this is a feature I have to pay for and I just can’t buy more things at the moment. But I understand that everyone that goes into making an app has to earn money somehow so that’s fine. Overall great app definitely recommend, especially compared to all the other competitive apps out there, this is by far the best and good job to all its developers!!!
Truly The Best
I have used, researched, and thought about more productivity apps than your average nerd… this is simply the best, in all cases. The development is done by a very small, very talented team. The updates, bug fixes, and announcements are lightning fast. They listen to the community but do not let it steer them in the wrong direction. They give you a million outs to not pay them a DIME. I have paid everything I can at the highest tier because this is my most used tool - but I didn’t really have to pay anything at all. I enjoy the desktop version more than the mobile version, but based on the insane features they just dropped on the desktop version (0.16) - I know the mobile version will be perfect at some point.
The app itself - amazing note taking app right out of the box that does not gate your data - take it and leave whenever you want. But, the reason I feel so strongly about it, there is an UNENDING level of customizability that comes from the deeply dedicated community and their custom plugins and themes - which the developer personally reviews and approves.
I could wax poetic forever. If you need more than basic note tools will give you then this is it. Forget Roam, Logseq, any of the other imitators - Obsidian is your answer.
