Unbalanced reporting.

I have a Herald Premium Subscription. But I am thinking of cancelling due to my perception of unbalanced reporting.

Too often there are articles by Mike Hoskings, Steven Joyce, Heather du Plessis Allan, Matthew Hooten et al but there is no counterbalance. These writers are certainly not balanced in their views and their political stances. They are unashamedly anti the current Government. The mark of a good newspaper is balanced journalism. Remarkably this newspaper seems to have stopped doing this

Huge battery hog on iPad!

I’ve been using the Herald paid subscription for quite a few years now, and I keep hoping the developers will realize the effect the app has on iPad battery life - but to no avail.

I use MANY apps on my iPad (latest generation, latest OS), but one thing unique to the Herald is the way it drains the battery even when not in use.

For example, if I read the Herald late in the day (I live in the US), then close the lid on the iPad when the battery shows (e.g.) 80% remaining, when I wake up in the morning and open the iPad the battery has usually dropped significantly - often as low as 10% remaining.

The only way I can stop this happening is to force-quit the Herald app before closing the lid - which is not the case with the other apps I have loaded. I’ve tested this behavior by quitting all other apps except the Herald - then closing the lid and leaving it closed overnight. Sure enough the battery drains even though the iPad is closed.

Seems like the Herald must be doing something non-standard in the background for this to happen - or maybe it’s just a Kiwi thing demanding constant attention.

The other major bugbear is the moderation of comments, which is VERY inconsistent and VERY one-sided. Some quite offensive comments get through, but other reasonable comments get rejected with no explanation. I guess it comes down to which moderator is on shift at the time, and which political leanings they have. Either way, very frustrating.

The NZ Herald app: THANK YOU!!

Firstly, thanks so much for the invitation to rate and review The New Zealand Herald app. As an ex-pat living in Oregon, USA, I love reading The Herald on my iPhone app every single day! I still have a major part of my family in New Zealand and consider The Herald app a lifeline to all the current news there... it’s a little part of home at my very fingertips! I am a little disappointed though, yet fully understand, that I can no longer enjoy ALL your reporting I used to without paying an extra fee for your Premium only articles. In particular I can no longer read Ana’s “Sideswipe” which always used to put a smile on my face (have even had my own contribution published)! Keep up the great work and thank you once again. PS: In a former life I worked for The Herald in Albert Street, Auckland!
