Giving a heartmelting twist to the conventional traditions, a social media user celebrated Bhai Dooj with her pet squirrel. She could be seen performing rituals such as puja and aarti with her ‘brother’ in a video that has struck a chord with the internet users. Bhai Dooj is a significant festival that celebrates the bond between siblings. On this day, sisters pray for their beloved brother’s longevity and well-being. The day also marks the culmination of five-day-long Diwali festivities.

Sharing the clip, she wrote, “Bhai dooj special edition, thanks for saving me from me."

After this, she put a tilak of good wishes on the pet’s head who seemed to be enjoying the ceremony. She also sprinkled rice, flowers and grains on Gillu which symbolises blessings.

      Appreciating the unique ceremony, a user said, “Aww, so cute". Another person quipped, “This reminds me to cherish every bond in my life." Noticing the squirrel’s friendly behaviour, someone noted, “It takes a lot of trust for a squirrel to act that way." The pet squirrel Gillu also has a page on Instagram, maintained by the woman and has a good reach of nearly 13,000 followers.

      According to Geobeats Animals, a digital publisher that features stories of adoptive and rescued pets, Gillu was rescued by the social media user a year ago when she found him near a car tire. While talking to the portal, she said, “We looked around for his nest, we tried to find his mother or any other siblings, but we couldn’t find anything. So, we took him home, and once he came home, he just melted all of our hearts and made his way into the family."
