Description

We believe that developing perfect pitch as an adult is an extremely difficult, if not impossible, endeavor riddled with pseudoscience making lofty promises. Most perfect pitch courses offer a dream with little in results.

However, many advanced musicians know there is another way. With strong relative pitch and one reference note burned into our brain, we can develop quasi perfect pitch as adults. Quasi perfect pitch is functionally very similar to perfect pitch. If we have one personal note we can reliably hear, sing, and feel resonating in our body, we can use relative pitch to find any note. Relative pitch can be aquired as an adult and is the typical ear training we see in apps like Neurofret where we figure the relationship between notes, intervals, scales degrees, major 3rds, perfect 4ths etc. Neuropitch bypasses all of the unknowns of adult perfect pitch acquisition by acknowledging the near impossible goal post and setting our sights on what is actually possible. Neuropitch is essentially a timer and tuner that reminds us to periodically test the recall of our chosen personal note while giving us feedback to track our progress. This is not an app we spend hours playing, shooting in the dark with all 12 notes. It just takes a few seconds at a time to refresh the note that's personal to us, and we continuously test it throughout our day and week.

What personal note should we choose? That depends on our unique experience. Have a favorite song from when you were a kid? Can you see the music video in your minds' eye? Can you easily sing it? The more ways we can conjure a deep experience from our childhood, the better we can unearth the pitch information. For example C3 is a lower note and may be hard for some of us, but many of us remember the opening chord from "Lean on me" or "Unchained melody" and can ignite the approximate pitch information by running the song in our heads. The stronger and more foundational memory, the better. A more contemporary example is the song "All Star" by Smash Mouth. By thinking of the music video, the song, how we felt listening to it, many of us could come very close to the singer's starting note of F#3 in "SOME body". Neuropitch harnesses our deep memories and experiences for the very practical and realistic goal of developing quasi perfect pitch.
