Description

Mei Ho House was built in 1954 to accommodate victims of a ruthless fire in Shek Kip Mei and set the prelude to Hong Kong’s public housing development. It is the only surviving resettlement block of the first generation of public housing in Hong Kong. It had provided housing for grassroots citizens for half a century, and contains precious social history. 2013 saw the completion of the revitalisation project of the Grade II historic building. Since then, it has been providing hospitable accommodations for visitors around the world. The Heritage of Mei Ho House offers an opportunity for all to know and understand the birth, conversion and revitalisation processes of the building and the stories related to the community.

In 2020, the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association (HKYHA) received funding support from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust to revamp the exhibition at the Heritage of Mei Ho House, and organise guided tours and training programmes through the Jockey Club Cultural Heritage Programme@Mei Ho House to promote the conservation of history and culture.
