จากการศึกษาของ ศูนย์พัฒนาเด็ก มหาววิทยาลัยฮาร์วาร์ด ได้เสนอแนวทางการเสริมสร้างและฝึกฝนทักษะการคิดเชิงบริหารสำหรับเด็กวัยเรียนอายุ 9 - 12 ปี โดยเสนอให้ใช้กิจกรรมหรือเกมส์ที่มีความท้าทายความซับซ้อนของกติกา ในการควบคุมยับยั้งชั่งใจในเกมส์เพิ่มมากขึ้น อาทิ เช่น การ์ดเกมส์ที่ต้องเล่นร่วมกันเป็นทีม และมีกติกาที่ซับซ้อน ฝึกการใช้ความจำ การวางแผนและยับยั้งชั่งใจรอคอย โดยภาพบนการ์ดก็จะเป็นรูปทรงต่าง ๆ ที่เร้าความสนใจเด็กวัยนี้ มีการจับคู่การ์ดเกมส์ด้วยหมายเลข นอกจากนั้นในกิจกรรมเกมส์จำเป็นต้องท้าทายความสนใจใช้การตัดสินใจที่รวดเร็ว
