Ratings and Reviews
Excellent. Seems to have improved heiban vs odaka
There are only four basic pitch patterns, and initially it seemed that this reference conflated two of them. (For example, Japanese hashi (端 edge) can be distinguished from hashi (橋 bridge) by whether the following particle will stay high or drop low.) There is now a clear notation for the latter (odaka) pattern. With this aspect fixed, I’d say JAccent is now THE reference app for its niche. It has additional promising-looking features that I haven’t really begun to explore.
Developer Response ,
Hi Spandrelf, thank you for your feedback. We will continue research about distinguishing between Heiban and Odaka patterns. In the mean time, we are developing the pitch accent generator for entire the sentence. After this function released, I hope that will help you to distinguish them.
Review Update post improvements
So i do still like this app for its availability of pitch accent information, though most of the quality of life/efficiency of use changes i hoped for in my first review are still lacking. Those being: lack of an option to have the Japanese swipe keyboard be the default and appear upon search bar entry; the search history not being accurate at all; the option for a search bar clear/reset upon each return to the app (shirabe jisho does this excellently).
a new issue is actually that upon clearing the search bar, the keyboard disappears, requiring me to click on the search bar again.
the AI was an odd but not unwelcome addition. though i don't find myself using it unless a word isn't in the app's database, in which case the AI usually can give me a definition.
Still a 4 star app to me because of how much i use it, but it feels like a weak 4 with how sluggish using it can feel sometimes.
Thank you to the developers, regardless! I know you guys are doing your best
Display Problems
This is seems good, but I am unable to full appreciate it because of a bug which prevents content from being displayed.
Most screens are not displayed and are instead replaced with a solid gray screen. The kanji tab works, but the actual definition screen does not, basically making the dictionary useless. I also cannot access the profile tab and chatbot. The flashcards tab is just a loading circle.
I have been trying to use this app for a few months, but it these issues are preventing me from doing so. I’m not sure if others are experiencing such issues, but I would appreciate is they could be resolved. Thank you.
