The HydroHome app gives BC Hydro customers tools and insights to track, understand and manage their home’s electricity use anywhere, anytime.
Features of the free app:
- Your whole home’s hourly energy use data up to the previous day.
- A breakdown of how your home uses energy.
- Insights and tips to help you save.
- Custom notifications based on your budget.
If you purchase a hub (optional) through the app, additional features are available:
- Real-time data that shows how much electricity your home’s using right now.
- Connect compatible smart home devices to see device-specific energy use.
- Control compatible smart home devices (lights, thermostats, plugs, etc.) all in one app.
With greater knowledge of your home’s energy use, you can take actions to save energy and money.
The HydroHome app is available to most BC Hydro residential customers. Hubs aren’t available to customers in apartment buildings due to limitations with the wireless technology.

Gimmicky rather than practical
I assumed this app would be similar to other utility apps I’ve used - a quicker login than the website to information about my usage, bill, and account. I was wrong. Only some of that information is on the app and the landing page is filled with useless information - I have no interest in how my energy usage compares to an arbitrary goal set by the app. I want to know how much energy I’m using. I’ll be removing the app from my phone and requesting they delete my information.

Hi Ddeejgpw, We appreciate your feedback. The Home screen has been designed based on feedback from users like you and what data points are important. The idea is to provide data points like, "How much energy have I used and how much will it cost me?" and "What is the highest contributor to my costs so far?" or "I want to know if a rate change is coming and what the change is" and users wanted to know what their projected usage would be, so they can make changes before the bill is sent. We have included those to allow customers to see what they desire and quickly. We would love to know more about the items you would like to see there. As for the goal, the aim is for you to set one for yourself. We put a goal based on your avg usage, but we encourage our users to input their own. We do not know what your goal is with the app, but we wanted you to be able to set one, so you can track your progress while using the app. We are always looking for ways to make the app better and are always open to feedback, so thank you for taking the time to provide it. If you would like to have your voice heard on what you'd like to see in the app, please contact Support via in-app chat, email at support@hydrohome.zendesk.com, or by phone at 877-763-778. We will absolutely pass any feedback we get onto the development team. Especially, if we can make the app better for our users!
