Girltelligence 9+

Such an amazing app and community!

Every time I open this app, I see that girls of all ages experience the same things as I do. I didn't use to have many girl friends, and I used to feel so alone in certain aspects of my life. Girltelligence reminds me that I am not alone, I have an amazing supportive sisterhood at my fingertips. I know that someone is always there for me to celebrate with, to rant with, to learn with, and to grow with.

Safety

Overall, I would give this app a three out of five. There are two major factors for my rating; usability and social responsibility. The app helps young women that are entering or currently in their adolescence, 11 to 21 years of age (the youngest allowed to join is 9 years based on the app store) to have a safe space where they can chat with other girls their age or ask for advice from older women. This app overall is easy to use, is very interactive, and has a variety of topics from love and romance, girls in steam, social justice, to politics and policy. I would have used an app similar to this one when I was in high school. With all being said, there is a major concern that comes to my mind as a woman, how do I know I am actually to the person they actually say they are? This app does not verify that you are either identify as female or the age you say you are. Individuals are able to share their personal social media accounts and you can privately message others. I can see this app potentially being used as a form for older adults to lure and groom young women. I believe it is not suitable for the age range they are marketing it towards. As someone who navigated the internet as an adolescent without parental control, I can see how this app can be a safe space for young women but I can also see the danger in it.

Thank you for sharing your concerns. The safety of our users is our #1 priority and Girltelligence is the safest app for girls and young women. Here’s why:

On Girltelligence, Girls who are younger than 15 y/o do not have access to DMs at all and *all* the content they see goes through a human moderator. 100%.

Content is customized by age so that younger girls do not see the discussions of the older girls but can ask older girls questions if they want to. Again they do not see any harmful content because our human moderators make sure it’s all appropriate.

For older girls and young women, we have our own proprietary AI and moderators to make sure the content is safe. Our AI is very effective at filtering any bullying/ inappropriate or even unsupportive posts or comments. Older girls and young women want to have the option to have DMs, where they can have private conversations and connect with each other, but the AI protects DMs as well and they also can report any DMs. We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any bullying or any other inappropriate content and DMs.

The app is actually for 13+ – we ask the users to enter their age when they register, and girls younger than 13 are not allowed in. This is not to say that the app isn’t safe for younger girls - it is. The rating on the app store is automatically determined by the app store based on content and, again, there is nothing in the app to make it unsafe to tweens. However, the minimum age is clear on the app where it counts.

Great app, really safe space!

I love using Telle! I find great advice on here about things I never even thought to ask. It has made me realize so many things that girls and women share in common with one another. I’ll pop on and check out funny content or go there to ask questions and get a ton of feedback on things without feeling embarrassed. Two thumbs up
