Description
Designed for apprentice and self-taught perfumers. As easy as using a pen and paper but allows you to make connections between raw materials and formulas which a traditional notebook can't provide.
Keep your raw materials organised with collection of cards to store information. Keep track of basic information such as supplier, IFRA limits and cost per gram. Add dates for purchasing your stock and making dilutions to act as a reminder to when raw materials may have gone off. A table summarising concentration in formulas serves to quickly remind you which usage levels you found the most success with.
Organise your formulas into custom categories and sketch out new ones with ease. Simply search your raw materials library and set a weight in grams up to 3 decimal places. Mark formula entries as too strong or weak. Change the dilution of a formula entry or swap out a raw material as you please. Formulair makes all of this quick and easy.
Features:
- A custom scaling engine helps you scale formulas up and down using a scaling factor, target weight or target concentration.
- View a fragrance pyramid split into 5 levels of substantivity and a visual raw material category breakdown for each formula.
- Keep track of different raw materials' dilutions and change dilutions in formulas using the existing solvent.
- Includes a setting to scramble your raw material usage table, hiding sensitive formula information.
- Your data is secured by apple in a private iCloud container.
- Featuring a carefully designed colour palette, allowing you to assign colours to fully capture the essence your raw materials.
- A rich interface supports light and dark mode. Even the raw materials colour palette adapts dynamically.
- Raw material cards include a listing of every formula it's used in from strongest to weakest, showing any flags you set for too strong or weak.
- Export formulas to pdf allowing you to print and share, markdown to open in note taking software, or tsv (tab-separated value) files, to load into spreadsheet software.
Pricing:
Formulair allows you to add up to 25 raw materials and up to 25 formulas for free. Once you try to go above this limit, you will be offered a one-time in-app-purchase to buy the full version, which allows you to create unlimited raw materials and formulas.

Ratings and Reviews
Groundbreaking App for Perfumers
As much as I love the old-school practice of writing out formulas (the simple act of writing out a formula gives me the luxury of time to really consider if or how I should add a material etc), but I am of the very new-school, need-it-done-now, gather-information-quickly, produce-results generation. This app is thoroughly thought out, from the ground up, top to bottom and side-to-side with every feature helpful in the process of formulating. Each feature exists for a practical and useful reason, and no feature that really has no practical use and serves no useful function is eliminated so you'd really have to be a dumb-dumb to fail using this app.
Side grip: I wish the settings were inside the app itself so I don't have to go to my actual phone settings to change advanced settings. But that's not even a bother once I figured out where those advanced settings were.
The only CON: both the app and my desktop version crash constantly when deleting material categories or deleting materials.
Developer Response ,
Hello,
Thank you for your comprehensive review, it's very much appreciated. I'm glad you're enjoying the app for the most part.
With regards to the crashes, I would be grateful if you could email me at sam@lux-terra.co.uk with more information so I can look into getting a fix implemented. Thank you.
Nearly perfect!
This is a great app. It makes the task of creating a formula much easier, as one can adjust weight modifications as you go along. Then, as you modify formula versions, the 'copy' feature also makes this a breeze. Evidently much thought went into this app. The few things I would say it needs is some aditional fields, such as 'Manufacturer,' which would better identify materials based on who made them. For naturals such as EOs, this would also help identify country of origin. An 'Image' field could also be great as often we can identify a material with an image. Or maybe an option to add custom fields, if possible, would take care of all of the above as we customize the app for our individual needs.

Sam Macer can live his life knowing he's left a legacy mark on perfumers of all levels by building this incredible program. As with anything there was a slight learning period but within a few sessions, one can wizz around this thing like a pro. It's truly remarkable and I'm deeply indebted to him, as I know many others are. If you're trying the free version, it can be fun, but I recommend just saving the few coffee shop trips to invest in the full version to truly receive the benefits of this amazing tool. Thank you, Sam!
