Ratings and Reviews
Excellent
Thank you. Excellent app that does what it says without all the unnecessary.
Simple, easy, it just works.
I looked at quite a few more complex DoF calculators. Besides costing two bucks and up, it looked like they didn't work as well as this one. Pros: Once you select your camera and lens in this app, everything you need is on one screen--no toggling back and forth to change settings and then flipping to another screen to see the results. Cons: It doesn't seem to be able to show a result less than .1 feet. When you're doing close-up or macro work, that's not enough precision. One tenth of a foot implies that you've got 1.2" of DoF to work with, when in reality, you may only have a tiny fraction of an inch. But overall, it's an absolute bargain at the price (Free!).
Suggestions for future versions: 1) On the lens specification pages, allow entry of the closest focus distance, and use it as the minimum 2) For results less than a foot, show the result in feet and inches, like 8.5" instead of .7' 3) As noted above, show results below .1 feet.
Great free product
Customizable and accurate. I would not use it for macro work. But then again that is not why i wanted the product. I would recommend this to any one to help improve their photography.
Also it would be great if it had function to calculate when you are diffraction limited to prevent people from going to a too small aperture setting on their camera
The only other con for this is that it does not compute the hyperfocal distance on large lenses properly.u Not that I am going to be taking any hyperfocal shots at 100 mm plus but I may want to selectively focus on some areas.
