DroneBlocks allows users to easily program fun and useful missions using block programming with the DJI Phantom 3, DJI Phantom 4, Mavic Pro and Inspire 1. Users can drag and drop blocks onto the canvas to command their drone to follow a basic flight plan.

Coupled with the DroneBlocks curriculum, educators can teach students about all aspects of STEM. For example, lesson plan #2 is a "Dronie" mission that teaches students about geometry and determining the best angle to tilt the camera for the perfect dronie shot. Other lessons include learning how to use loops, fly in a star pattern, shoot a panorama, and much more.

You can access our curriculum bundle online for free. Just go here and enroll in the course and you'll get access to eight fun programming lessons:

DroneBlocks is currently being used in several classrooms around the country and we're looking forward to see what exciting and interesting missions our users will create!

So much potential but so frustrating to use

This is such a cool idea but it’s so finicky. I have used it to program my Tello and is so cool when it works. When it doesn’t it’s so frustrating. For example if the drone crashes the when you try to launch the mission again(after aborting) it doesn’t do anything some of the times. You can’t save your missions unless you are logged in and connected to the internet! You also can’t change missions without first disconnecting the drone, getting back on WiFi with internet logging in then change your mission, then connect to Tello WiFi again to run that mission. If missions are saved locally we should be able to save and change missions without disconnecting from the drone. I would pay for this upgrade!

Tello camera controls!

This app is great. I use it for my Tello drone. The one thing that I really wish you would add is camera controls. You can control the camera on other drones using this app but when you go to Tello blocks (The only one that works with the Tello drone) there is no camera controls. I cannot program it to record while doing pre-programmed commands. Other than this it’s a good app I just really wish you would add camera controls for Tello.

Disappointment for Middle School Drone Camp

The Tello drone ($99 value) was chosen for the camp at a PRESTIGIOUS university only to be disappointed using this app when introducing coding to program the device. Keep in mind the students are either Level 4 or Level 5, and wish to pursue a career in Engineering. So imagine their disappointment when they discovered major flaws when using the app. First was figuring how to connect it. Once connected, both the camera and the "Land at Home" features become inactive; so, Drone Blocks's Lesson 2: Dronie activity was cancelled. Having limited features quickly bored the students wherein the Facilitators switched to introducing Thinker CAD and 3D printing. The app needs to be updated ASAP!!! 👎🏾👎🏾

Developer Response ,

Hi, sorry to hear about the inconvenience. I'd be happy to help you gain a better understanding of how DroneBlocks works. The iOS version supports Tello, but the curriculum you were reviewing is for DJI Spark, Phantom, and Mavic Pro. Tello cannot pitch the gimbal or return to home because it does not have GPS. So it was likely you were using the DJI blocks and not the Tello blocks for your camp. There is a "Tello Blocks" selection in the DroneBlocks menu. If you'd like to chat about it further feel free to reach out to me directly: db@droneblocks.io. Thanks.
