Description
The "Obersalzberg Documentation Center" is a place of learning and of remembrance. It explores the history of Obersalzberg and of the Nazi dictatorship. Obersalzberg, Hitler's holiday domicile since 1923, was expanded after 1933 to become an alternative seat of government to Berlin. Hitler not only used the setting as a stage for his own self-promotion, he also took decisions there about war and genocide affecting the whole of occupied Europe. Since 1999 the Obersalzberg Documentation Center, conceived and supervised by the Institute of Contemporary History Munich-Berlin (IfZ) on behalf of the Free State of Bavaria, has offered the opportunity to grapple with the history of Obersalzberg and of National Socialism. Regular events, public guided tours and an extensive educational program complement our permanent exhibition "Idyll and Atrocity", newly opened in 2023.
The "Obersalzberg Documentation Center" app supports the center's educational work on site in the exhibition building as well as in the digital space. It provides both in-depth media content in the exhibition and the option of taking part in various guided tours of the exhibition. In addition, the app provides a range of easy access and fully accessible offerings.
